Anyone know how to get an engine from Dallas to S.A.?

I need to get a longblock from dallas to san antonio. What would be the cheapest way to do that. I'm working on borrowing a friends 'burban, but am not sure how that's going to work. And if it falls through, I want a second option to get that thing down here. Thanks.

EDIT: The burban has fallen through, what are my other options?

I'm sure there are freight companies that do this. Ask some of the vendors how they have their engines shipped. I know it will cost you around or over $150.

Yeah, only other way besides truck is to have it shipped to a dock via freight. Or driven here on a freight truck.

ok,

but i'm going to strap the block to your back and make you carry the crank and pistons, and put the heads on your feet.

well in that case I sure hope it is an LS1 because it is little lighter than a LT1

Yeah, it is, but it's an iron block.

Ah, that 6.0L iron block you were telling me about. Sweet! 364ci!
...now I want a Silverado SS.

Well dimension wise the LS1...or Vortec 6000...ain't too much bigger (mostly taller) than a small block. I actually sat a 350 long block in the back of my minivan with no problem. The weight made me a little droopy but I have towing shocks.

Basically, off the top of my head, so long as you have a 30x30x30 inch space you should be good to go.

Dunno if I can secure you a vehicle but if you need a trip buddy, holler at me! I'd love to go check out da' motor.

How big can the iron block be bored and stroked? 431? Or is it a cheap way of duplicating the C5-R race block (in other words 454ci LS engine!)

Kevin,

If you get a truck, I would love to have someone come with me. 5 hours in the car is a lot. Let me know.

Also, the biggest you can go with this block is a 427 i think. That would be a .060 over bore and 4.125 stroke. I will probably just go .030 over and stay with the stock stroke to make mine about a 370 or so.

well 427 is the more common figure. But technically, I thought all factory LS1's could...could be (but not likely) be bored and stroked to a final 431ci. Being that the 4 cubes won't make that much difference, I guess you really only need stick with the more popular 427 figure. But, just curious.

...Going from the stock 346 out to the 427 will net you a gain of about 76 horsepower!!! And thats with stock equipment!

But it'll cost you about (what?) 5 grand which makes it the most expensive horsepower per dollar ratio available. So, I probably won't be running any 7 Liter LS1's any time soon. But cool.

I have an '02 F-150 SuperCrew. If I can pry it from my Parents, its a weak maybe, but I'll check.

If you can wait until that F-body shootout thing at RCR I could bring it down with me. Of course this is in March

Thumbs up

I can bring it to you in my Suburban just for the cost of gas both ways and a good lunch while I'm there.

How's that?
