Anyone bought at Alamo Cycleplex?

I have heard that they are not the best to deal with when purchasing a bike, can anyone attest to that? I am looking into getting a Yamaha Road Star Warrior, I checked the Yamaha dealership but they were sold out of 2003s, and I will call around to other places to see if they have them. I know that Cycleplex has one of those but I am a bit skeptic if they do have a bad reputation. I don' t mean to flame them but I just want honest opinions. thanks.

Would you consider a used one? A friend of mine bought one about a year ago to impress this one girl, but shes not around anymore and he only rides the bike about once a month. So he'd probably sell it.

Yeah I was looking for one either new or slightly used, not too many miles on it. How much is he asking for it? Is it a 2003?
I put myself on the waiting list for the 04 at the Yamaha but I don't want to wait until december. Would like to get it soon.

i HATED alamo cycleplex in the past, but now thier new service manager rocks. i went in a few months back and i could tell things had changed. then i went to joe harrison and what do i see? the same guy who had put that bad taste in my mouth about alamo working at joe harrison. alamo did have a bad rep in the past, but i think things are gettting better. i do feel sorry for joe harrison though.

I believe it is a 2003, and it can't have many miles on it, he only rides it about once a month. It's already got drag bars and aftermarket pipes on it (I hope you like LOUD).
I'll see if I can talk to him today and see how much he wants for it.

Pedro,

it doesnt matter where you buy the bike. Its the service department that makes a difference. personally my money goes to other places besides Alamo cycle plex. Theyre sales men are irresponsible and will sell to anyone. Honestly, they only are concerned about the bottom line: selling a bike. If you go in there theyll ask you your budget first, then theyll point you to the bike with the best profit margin in the budget range. So that means the inexperienced UTSA coed with 10 grand gets seat time on an R1.

I didnt know Joe Harrison sold Yammies. Yammy of SA is right behind them on Randolph Blvd next to the passport place. Joe harrison is a better for sales. Mr harrison is even around to sell what he has on the floor. A buddy of mine met him, gave him a good deal and was very satisfied with the transaction.

If I were you, Id get a used bike. Google search "used bike shopping guide" cuz theres an excellent site that highlights what needs to be checked out before buying. Im not a cruiser guy, but when the time comes that you want to bring another person along for the bike evaluation, email me. A new bike depreciates quickly and a 1 or 2 year old bike will be better because its already broken in. All of those worries bout someone ragging it in are non sense. practically all modern bikes are trouble free engine wise, if maintained according to the manual. especially the japanese ones!

lastly, as stated above, it really doesnt matter where you buy because youll be bringing it to the best service dept anyway. I personally bring my bike to a guy in Poteet that works at Alamo. Just know your budget and be faithful to it. A yammie RSW is not a new bike and isnt in as high a demand as you may think. Have you checked cycletrader.com or the print version (available at any gas station?

Above all, I hope youve taken an MSF safety course. also budget about $1000 for riding gear. ahh what am I talking about, youre looking at a cruiser. the protective bandana is probably all youll wear anyway.

keep the rubber side down,
DF
