Pacesetter longtubes in Illinois

How many people from the Chicago area are running Pacesetter longtubes with the off-road y-pipe. I am finishing the installation of mine and I am afraid I am going to get nailed by the emissions police. My dad was telling me that he knows of a guy that was fined 10,000.00 for running headers with no cats. Does this sound right to you? That seems like a helluva stiff penalty.

I dont know of anyone ever getting that big of a fine but it is possible. Running no cats is considered a SERIOUS offense with the state and you could face huge fines even serve some time(pretty extreme) but possible.

Wow, jailtime for not running cats., that is pretty extreme. I dont think I will be able to fit two cats. in the car, but I was thinking about trying to get one at the end of the y-pipe. My headers also have AIR and EGR fittings and the motor is kept in excellent tune so at least I am trying to abide by the law here so hopefully they will cut me a break..??

you can fit 2 cats under there you just need to modify the y-pipe. if you put it in the "I" part of the Y its just gonna serve as a visual look and not function properly. Also it really depends on what testing station you go to, i havent had anyone ever look under my car for cats and since it's a 97 there gonna plug u in a go.

Thank you for the reply, I planned on ordering a pair of carsound cats. to weld in the y-pipe. Would you happen to have a picture of a modified y-pipe showing the location of the two cats?
