Good place that does rear ends?
Good place that does rear ends?
I'm looking for a good place that does rear ends. I have an assembly I'm working on that the housing needs to be shortened, axle cut and resplined, and spring perches relocated. I know there has to be a ton of places in and around Joliet since the racetrack is right there. Somewhere that can do it for ~ $350 or less.

I need some work on my rear too. Needs a new ring and pinion (pinion blown to bits actually). My towtruck driver gave me the number to some place over in Addison, IL if that isn't too far from ya. I'll give them a call and talk to them. He says they do awesome work, but they're probably quite pricey as they are an all-around speed shop. He says they do a lot of work with drag cars.
Re: Good place that does rear ends?
Actually I know a guy closer to chicago, he used to work at chicago driveline.
His shop is down the street from there, its called chicago differential. He did the 4.10 gear on my 99 Formula. He's real good, very knowledgable, and very easy to talk to. Decent price too, something like $750-800. Seems like you can't get rear end work done cheap anywhere, so I just stick with who I trust. My 4.10 didn't make a sound btw. I think the number is 708-385-2100, his name is rich.
oh yea, the shop is on like 115th and central, not terribly far from lockport.
On 159th, west of bell theres another shop called BEI. I kinda know the owner there, he seems to be a little cheaper but I don't have any experience with his work, other than fixing a U-joint.

Re: Good place that does rear ends?
I need a specialized shop. I'm talking about full modification of the rear end housing. Somewhere that can put my housing in a jig for it to be modified. Also, the places I've checked with want the housing bare (the ring and pinion removed). If its possible, I want a place that can do it with the gears left in because I dont want to pay for the gears to be re-set.

Try calling Rick's again. Maybe his wife answers the phone, and since they have two different businesses at the same place, she may just answer the phone with "hello". Ask if you reached Rick's Racecraft. They may also forward the business phone line to their house. I know my friend used to get late-night nitrous bottle fills from Rick with just a phone call.
He's a really nice guy. When I stopped to get his business card for you, it was Sunday and he was working. I just stopped by to see if his number was on his door somewhere. I went in and talked to him a few minutes, and he wasn't bothered at all.
