Hi, I was wondering if anyone here can shed some light on what may be wrong with my 97 V6 Camaro. I was driving in 5th gear(manual) down a highway when all of the sudden my shifter kinda jolted but not violently. Then it did it a second time in which could not get my car out of 5th gear. Upon getting the car of the lift, he tried jamming it out of 5th and get it stuck in reverse where it won't budge at all. Someone told me it sounded like someting could be wrong with the tranny, but the people who towed it a second time said they think its a rear end locking up? I have no clue, but the car has 37,000 miles on it. Any suggestions on what might be wrong would be helpful... Thank You

 

sorry i cant be of any help, but 37,000 on a 97 is outstanding! i have a 2000 and it has 40,000+. AND i am going on my second rebuild!

 

sounds like something bad inside the transmission

 

I guess its your trans

 

Haul it out and open it to look for a bent shaft, bent forks will do it too.
If any thing important is broke, bent or looks like it has taken a hard hit in side there S-can the trans and get a nother one.
If it looks like it took some real force to do the damage then the trans carrier could be warped, deformed And wont last long at all if rebuilt.
