What temp does your gage normally read?
What temp does your gage normally read?
My gauge used to stay right about 185. I noticed it up around 210 last week and I checked the coolant and it was low. At this time I flushed the radiator and refilled it. I've checked the level and it is fine and I haven't found any leaks. But the gauge doesn't hold steady at 185 like it did before. When I'm sitting in traffic it goes up to about 210 but once I start driving and air hits it, it goes back down to 185. My friend said it's normal but I don't ever remember it behaving like that before. Is this normal or should I investigate further?
mine has been in between 190-210 ever since I bought the car new in 99'. I just flushed my radiator yesterday for the first time........My antifreeze was BROWN!!! I ended up flushing it three times before I got most of it out. I don't even want to know what my hoses and thermostat look like.
NINJA02: did you ever find the drain plug you were asking about? I have no idea where it is, the only drain I know of is the one on the bottom right side of the radiator itself.

I don't really like the Dex-Cool coolant nor do I trust leaving the coolant in for 5 years/100,00 miles so I flush and refill right before each summer.
My temps are usually at the line above the 160 or just slightly over it...I mean just a hair over the line. It is natural for the car to climb when sitting at a red light, traffic, etc. I've been in other F-bods and the temps in those cars climb just the same as mine. Funny...the temp gauge in my girl's Mustang never climbs, even in traffic.

286 degrees.
180-190 while driving, and 190 sometimes 200 while idling.
Mine does that occassionally (in warmer weather, not lately), usually the fan will kick on (after awhile) and send it back down. But 210 doesn't sound bad. Hell my blazer goes to 230
(no joke) when I used to go through a drive thru in 85+ degree weather.

When you refill the radiator/ add coolant make sure you have the heater turned on full. You'll end up taking about a half to full gallon of more coolant!!!.
If coolant goes down too low, the heater won't work well. I tried changing thermostats but until I checked the fluid level, and refilled, a T'Stat didn't make one differance.
With a 195 unit, it goes about 185 driving, and climbs around 210 at long long stops.
...if I stop more than a minute I shut down. Waste gas, heat climbs, etc. I need to install the manual fan control switch.
