I would say first you need to open the engine up. Some strait duels will do nicely. Then a nice set of headers. That's what I'd do.

Well...You can wash it and make it look pretty, but if you have money to spend, SAVE IT. If you get more into cars, you'll want a Camaro (or another car) that's faster than a 2.8 V6.

Unless you want to go through the engine to make the 2.8 a "fast" engine, start small as stated above by "opening up the engine" i.e. letting it breathe. Oil and filter change, replace stock air box with K&N, and maybe a performance muffler or, as money permits, re-do the exhaust system for larger diameter and better flow. You'll gain a horse or two, maybe 5 with a new exhaust system, and you'll have a car that growls

i would save ur money.... because if you want it "FAST" as a v6 its going to cost you alot of money! I would start saving now and buy a never z28 with a LT1 or LS1 powerplant! Unless you plan on doing a engine swap.

Right on, Thanks guys.
This is my first car and it is highly doubtful that i will be able to get a new camaro w/ all the moving out and whatnot... So i do plan on learning everything i can with this car.
thanks for the ideas!

(i checked it out more today and found out it didn't even have an air filter in it haha)

Thumbs up

Okay I had a 2.8.. A 1986.. It did run pretty good and would give most of these 3.8 guys a shock…

What you need to do is begin by hitting thirdgen.org the v6 section and ask for Tom P… He has a 1984 bird that runs pretty good..

Some other ideas:

Tires 235 60 R15 look great on that ride
Stock Plugs and if you want and live in Florida I have some Crane 8.5MM Fire Wires you can have for free for that ride… They were for my 86 2.8 V6 Camaro so should work for yours.. I never used them…

Check out these links:

Be proud of your ride.. I would take my third gen v6 over any 4th gen 3.8…

i know i'd be suprised to see a 3rd gen V6 runnin lower than a 16

as to what to do.. im personally on a rage against the intake manifolds on the 60* v6 right now.. i say get a new manifold for your car.. edelbrock makes a nice one for carbed 60*'s

find a 3.4L out of a 4th gen...swap 97% of the 2.8L stuffs over to the 3.4l heads/bottom end/block and good bit more power. I did it and its killer. Lots of people just swap, but I took the motor apart and replaced a lot of shiznits too... *shrug* feels safer that way.

Just goto thirdgen.org and search in the messageboards for 3.4l swap .... or click the 3.4l swap boogie in the tech articles. It's good stuff.

The 2.8l will never make the car fast... 3.4L just makes it a decent daily driver/beater car
