What next?

I've got a question for someone who's done this before or perhaps knows more about it than me. I've got a 1997 Camaro, 3.8 Liter series II, SLP cold air intake, MagnaFlow Catback exhaust with a 5 speed. I'm looking to take it a little bit farther with performance but I'm not quite ready to drop a few G's on the supercharger they make for the 95-98 models. I checked out Hypertech for their Power Programmer III and they do not have a model that will work with my vehicle. Anyone know of any effective, safe and relatively cost efficient alterations i can make....willing to do about anything...the warranty is shot already. Thanks.

Re: What next?

Do some other stuff, like suspension stuff or brakes, if you want to change the feel of your car and add to your mod list.

if you want speed, SLP 1.8 rockers, headers and a high flow cat, or a 75 shot of nitrous could help.

Re: What next?

a shifter is a must, the b&m or pro 5.0 would be great additions....

otherwise... suspension work would help the feel of your car

Re: What next?

Thanks a lot, i was thinking more for straight line performance, probably a mod chip, or some type of computer enhancement, any suggestions with which one to get?

Re: What next?

I second the shifter!!! I just installed mine like 20 mins ago and holy wow!! B&M Ripper for the T-5, was a direct bolt on and took about 20-30 minutes under the carport fighting mosquitos. Truly a must have.

i think, for the money, a chip/programmer is an unwise choise...
just saying that maybe leave that 'til later (Especially as u have a m-5 not auto)... the money is better spent elsewhere

Re: What next?

dont do a supercharger anyway. Do some homework, look into a turbo not a supercharger down the road.
If you are going to go chip, jet makes a leave in plug in type. they are cheaper than the Hypertech, but i would choose hypertech over jet if money wasnt an issue. I have a jet stage 2 and im happy with it.

Re: What next?

Hes got a 97 3800, noone makes a chip or programmer for our cars.

Right now, headers would probably be the biggest difference for your car.

Re: What next?

Shifter, 1 pc. aluminum driveshaft + Bilsteins = just over $500.

For roughly $500, your car will be much more fun to drive.

Give us how much $$$ you are willing to put in and your ultimate goal.

Re: What next?

Don't bother with any of the handheld programers for your car - save the money and buy tuning software (HPTuners or DHP). A shifter is a definite must, Pro 5.0 is a good choice.

You might also want to think about swapping to a 99+ style UIM to get rid of that angled neck on yours. That will let you swap to a lid-style intake, and you can use the SLP or Fast Toys Ram Aim kit to get some nice cool air into the motor.

Re: What next?

Thanks a lot....ill look into a shifter...but Hedzilla is right, no one makes a chip or programmer for my vehicle, that i know of anyway. If anyone knows of some compatable chip or programmer, let me know...and to Import Killer, i would spend up to 1000 right now if i can get the right results out of it. I'm just looking to make it a bit quicker...Its quicker than it should be already...i took a 2005 WRX through three gears on three straight lights. I'm just looking to add a bit more. Thanks for the feedback, it comes real quick around here.

Re: What next?

Im still sayin the ultimate thing you can do now is nitrous. For less than a grand you can have a safe setup that will really make a difference in the straight line performance.

Re: What next?

Deadmeat...i'd like the power all the time so I'm trying to avoid nitrous...What stage 2 chip did you find for your make?...I'm having trouble finding one. also, does anyone know anything about the hptuner, it looks pretty complex but it think i could probably figure it out...How effective is it though? Thanks.
