What the gas milage on a v6

Have a friend thats going to be traveling a lot and wants a camaro but he need to know if the money he'll save on gas by going with the v6 is worth it. I get 22-26 miles on the high way with my lt1 so I'm trying to see how much more you get with the v6.

Here are the ratings from msn autos, might differ from what people actually observe.
(city / highway)
A4 3.8l - 19 / 29
A4 LS1 - 17 / 25
M6 LS1 - 18 / 27

Shows how far we've come since the 70's. You can have a 350hp small block chevy and BARELY be behind a v6 in gas mileage.

If he can afford it, go with the LS1

I got 23 all city driving, less then 10 mile trips each time and I let inot it occasionlly...

My best on the highway was I think about 27-28 mpg...

if he wants fuel efficiency a T-56 ls1 is the way to go... they ahve enough torque to be efficient in the low rpms, and a double overdrive...

I have a couple questions and an answer.

"A4 3.8l - 19 / 29
A4 LS1 - 17 / 25
M6 LS1 - 18 / 27"

What's this, and how do you know what you have?

As for an answer, on my trip from Wisconsin, I was getting about 33 gallons to the mile on the highway. If there are any doubters, I think I've got the reciept somewhere. I had gone about 130 miles and used about 3 gallons.

I think I can answer that a4= automatic 4 speed, 3.8l=v6, m6= manual 6 speed. ls1= engine that burns oil, lt1= engine that aint got the power captain. both are v8s.

If your car is a automatic the first one is you. The other two are gas mileage on the V8 used from 1998-2002 in the Camaros and Firebirds.

33mpg is probably possible in the 3.8l. My dads GTP has the same 3.8l plus a supercharger and the reading that shows how many miles to the gallon he is getting occasionally shows 30-32. 3 gallons and 130 miles would be over 40mpg though.

The best way to measure it is to reset your odometer when you fill up (fill up completely), then the next time you fill up (again, completely fill it up) look how many gallons you put in and look at what the trip odometer says.

So... what would the V6 with the 5-speed be called? M5 3.8l?

That explains a lot, 99BlackSS. I was wondering why my numbers looked so off. Thank you.

The v6 has the advantage of using regular 89

in all seriousness, if your friend is doing that much driving, once your moving, the V6 should be fine for his needs.

I think I've goten a max of 28 highway going to the shore with 3 people and all our stuff.
