v6 vs v8
v6 vs v8
i got a weird question. if i was to buy a new 1996 camaro stock, what would be the cost difference in purchasing a v6 and a v8 LT1? and if i was selling a v8 ( manual 6 speed)stock how much more would i get if i was selling a v6 ( manual 5 speed)stock?
i reason i'm asking is my dad was telling me there is only a 200-300 dollar different when choosing which engine i would want for a brand new car.

when your talking new and stock, side by side there is a lot more than $200-$300 difference. now when you talk used and abused, then they might be closer to one another. but new, stock for stock no way. i have seen that V6s are always sold cheaper by at least a grand if not more, and i am talking used. new, you are surely talking a few grand more.

If I'm not mistaken the Z28 was like a $3,000-$4,000 option.I can't remember exactly but I got my 1995 3.4 V6 fully loaded for $16k brand spanking new.The cheapest loaded Z28 I looked at went for over $20k.Good luck.

You can look at the value of a v6 or Z28 at
www.edmunds.com
Just enter average condition and you can tell about what they are worth. I sold my(not loaded, but had leather)Silver '00 v6 in March for $12,000 and bought a '99 loaded Z28 for $14,600. They both had about the same miles. I sold my v6 in Autotrader.com, One dealer was only going to give me $8,000 for it on trade-in. That was less than half what I paid for it.

My 93 Z28's window sticker says $20,895. So I'd say there was quite a bit more difference when new. But when you're looking for used, you can find a GREAT car for a great price. Just be patient and look carefully. Remember, patience is a virtue!
