v6 mustang clutch question!!!
v6 mustang clutch question!!!
hey guys, i know this is the wrong site for this but i cant post on that site, and the search pulled nothing.... i have a 99 v6 mustang. my clutch has been whinning when i start it up cold. (almost a hissing sound ) today it started doing it all the time, not just while cold.... anyways, driving around felt ok, except the pedal pressure was completly gone. now the car is squeeling really bad and its makin an odd click sound. if anyone is familiar with this engine bay, could u tell me how i could fill the clutch fluid? i have a bad feeling my clutch cylinders may be going out? thanks for the help in advance
Hey fellow Mustang owner,
Sorry to hear about your troubles.
Your car does not have a clutch master or a slave cylinder.
You have an old fashioned clutch cable driven system. If it feels loose, its probably worn out and you need to replace it before it snaps off and your stuck in a gear until you get home, or stop to get towed. My ex girlfriend's clutch cable broke loose right when she was taking off and we had to drive the car grandma style for a while because of that.
Back to the point:
The cable is about 90 bucks from Autozone. Its not too difficult to install. The squealing might be because the clutch cable isnt allowing the throwout bearing to engage/disengage properly. However, the problem may also be a bad clutch fork, or a throwout bearing. Have one of your buddies help you check it out by jacking up the car (properly) and peeking through the inspection cover on the side of the bell housing.
Good luck bro,
-Rex

hey man thanks.....
my clutch is the stock clutch, so u think its just the cable and not the clutch itself... it was slippin at all so im pretty sure your right. when i push the clutch in it would make a crunching sound almost. come to think of it, recently the car has been tinging like the throw out bearing would make. ill get it checked out man thanks.
