Question V6 1/4 mile times?

I took my car to the track for the first time here in San Antonio a while back and ran a best time of 15.9. I know I made a couple of mistakes though: windows down, tires at 40psi. I know the main problem I was having was getting the tires to stick. I was running street tires and with my first run spun them all the way through 2nd and pulled a 17.1. After that I started heating up the tires before each run and was pulling much better times. Any feedback?

its your driving. when i had the mods you listed i ran a 15.5 @ 88 mph. did you take off on the second yellow or did you wait till you saw green. that could do a 15.9- leaving on the green. and i really dont believe warming up street tires does any good. and i wouldnt invest in getting drag radials untill you get some mods that call for them. they are too expensive a tire to drive around on if you are only getting 15.9 at the track.
and if you are from san antonio and drive a 6, why havent we met?

1fastv6 - How you leave, wether on the 2nd yellow or the green has nothing to do with your ET. That effects your reaction time.

wicked98v6 - Practice, practice and more practice. Did you remove anything you did not need out of the car? Bump the front tire psi to 45? Run a 1/2 tank or less of gas? Remove the spare & jack?

cantonracer, i hear ya. i guess what i should have said is practice practice practice also. the reason i asked that was cause of this: i raced an LS1 and he got a 14.7. i had asked him the same question and he said green. well the next time we raced he got his well deserved 14.2. its the little things, i believe. since we race at the same track i know for a fact that his car should not be doing 15.9. especially in cooler weather. unless he got a factory freak slow car. but then he says he couldnt get his tires to stick- i never remember having that problem till i got my 2800 TC.
wicked, i would still like to hit the track with ya!

That sounds cool fastv6. I go to Alamo every once in a while on Wednesday nights. Mine is the only black 98V6 I've seen with the stock z28 exhaust. It doesn't have very many Mods but she's one wicked 98V6....

i havent ever been to San Antonio but do you have to pull through the water? you should get the best traction by just cleaning off street tires, but when i ran my 14.86 at Temple, you have to go through the water, i would do as big of a burnout as i could but it would turn in the water, then i woudl do dry hops until it hooked real good, sometimes it took 3 dry hops...but then it would hook the best...

i dont know how closely you guys are looking at this guys sig, but he is lugging around a lot of stereo equipment. that alone could have made most of the difference between that 15.5 and his 15.9. i am not saying that the issue of practice is not valid...we could all use more of that, but the weight is a major factor in all of this that should not be ignored. so just keep in mind that with tunes comes some sacrifices.

it will make a difference but not .4!!! 100lbs is roughly equal to .1 in the quarter...

i just said that the stereo was a part of it. most of us dont have that much stuff rolling around in the back of our cars, so it is something to consider beyond what we are used to for the most part. there is definitely room for driver improvement, there was never a question about that, but he shouldnt feel as bad about his time as he would have to had he not had all that stereo equipment in the back of his car.

Thanks for the info guys. I know it's not my audio equip thats holding me back. it's all stock except for the amp and single 12" sub/w box. total added weight of about 30 lbs....But I also pulled out my spair before I went to the track which would have cut back on the added weight. My problem is getting the tires to stick. The wicked 98 can move on the street and get up. It's just an issue of getting the tires to stick on the track. I'm going to try bring the rear tires down to about 30 psi and hope to eventually get a posi track rear end and single drive shaft to replace the stock split shaft to get more power to the wheels and get them moving.

fastv6...I'll keep you posted on the next time I go to alamo so that we can hook up.
