hey one of my buddies just got a 96' firebird and the shift solenoid is out on the tranny (auto). It just stays in fourth gear so thats what we think is the problem... any good places to find the part, and how much to fix it? tks

 

Are there any SES codes? The OBD-II monitoring system does cover certain aspects of the transmission as well, the performance of the shift solenoids being one of them. Also, they are for the most part not the most common thing to fail in the transmission, its usually something mechanically related.

 

this is my firebird that he is refering to.. and yes, there were 3 obd-2 codes..
P1810 - TFP Valve Position Switch Circuit
P1860 - TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit Electrical
P1886 - Shift Timing Solenoid

ive talked to several transmision people and they just told me to get it scanned... that is as far as i have gone with this... i have found a few diferent solenoids at Oriellies but 1 have no idea how to replace them, and 2 dont really know exactly what i need.
