I mostly had that in highschool. But then again, I had the nicest car, so who were they to talk?

Now, 2 years into college, I see people driving such POS's and boring cars because their highschool days are over and they cant afford the cars anymore and it makes me happy that I still have mine.

I loved my auto 97 3.8v6 camaro. Very reliable, quick response, a blast to drive.

I appreciate all your guys input on everything I am going to get a newer v6 I mean hell its 200 horses at the fly with the 3.8 engine correct, so thats more than the newer v6 mustangs and thats alot more when I think about it especially since I drive a Nissan 200sx SE with maybe 100 at the fly lol One more question though what is the Y87 package? Should I look for it when getting a car? I will keep you guys posted when I get one. I hate to see you guys telling me all this and not see the final result. Oh, if you guys see any good ones for sale that look like a good deal please pm me and let me know thanks yall.

Y87 on 2000 and newer gives LSD, better tires, dual exit ehaust and a higher sport steering. I think that is what it has. I'm pretty sure.

It is the V6 performance package.'

You can tell if it has it by looking at the stock exhaust, if it has one turned down tip it doesnt, if it has two then it does.

Its kinda rare package, I could of had a Y87 firebird but it was a hardtop so I went with my Camaro because it was T top.

I wish I had the gears and LSD but I got everything elts I wanted so I'm happy.

yeah I wouldn't let that get to me if I were you. Unless they want to pay the difference for your insurance, gas, replace your tires for you, and pay the difference for the new v8, I'd get the 6 if you were happy. Like Chris said, some of them are driving pos's, so you'll be by far ahead of them. You can't please everyone man, just start out by making yourself happy. From what these guys are saying, everything else will come together. The 98-2000 firebird sounds like a real solid car for a 3.8 L.
I dont have a new firebird, but I did have an LT1. It was a 94 trans am. I've thought very hard a few days about buying a ta like my old one. I've also thought about getting a new firebird for a 2nd car/winter car. I really like the cars.
What you are doing is great, get as much info as you can now. You dont want to get into something and regreat it. Like I said I've had a 94 trans am, and I loved it. I owned it for more than a year. It was red, it had t-tops, exhaust... It was a real sharp car. I have been looking recently for a 94-96 LT1 with low miles, in 6 speed this time in my price range. I've also been looking at 98-2000 firebirds. I found a few nice ones, some with under 50,000 miles, t-tops, and leather interior. There is a lot out there, you just have to find something that fits your needs. Not anyone elses. That is why I havent jumped into anything yet. I am lucky I've had the lt1 before. Part of me wants to go newer because of the reliability issues some people have brought up. The newer 98+ may have less problems than the almost 10 year old lt1. There is so much to think about. (gas, insurance, reliability, practicality, price, resale) I hope I helped some. I have a few pics of my trans am if you want to take a look at them, email me if you have any questions. I agree with all the people who say most of the ones who are going to give you crap about it being a V6 drive a crappy car. Just like people with autos tell me I should have gotten a stick.

Get t-tops.

Yeah as many people who are going to give you $hit for it being a 6, there are 10 times that many people who look at it and will wish they had it. (Some not even knowing it is a 6) BlueShadowDemon i sent you the pics of my ta. You asked about reliability... Mine was a 94 trans am with 70,000 miles. I had to replace the headlight motor, and the window motor. (Obviously if you get a Camaro, you wont have the headlight motor problem) Do the new firebirds still have problems with the headlight motor? I had to replace the starter. Other than that, that was it. The motor, interior, and the tranny were fine. I did replace a bunch of trans mounts. I’m not sure if it was how I drive, or something was wrong with the motor mounts, or tranny or what... But I went through a handful of motor mounts in a year. Good luck.

Great point, I got the 3.4L (for the same reason as the threadstarter, it was the best I could afford) and have nothing but fond memories with it.

It wasn't the fastest car in the world but it certainly wasn't the slowest, and it looked great.

I have to agree on dishing out the cash with lt1's. They are very strong awesome cars but it seemed I was always spending something on my 94 z. IMO I would buy a 91-92 z28. My old 91 z had 140000 miles on it and ran so strong. Never burned a drop of oil. Never spent ANY money on repairs. SUpER reliable, plus they are SWEET looking cars. I regret getting rid of it. The kid who bought it never had to put any cash in it except for the alternator and now it has well over 200000 miles on it. Mine also gotg awesome gas mileage. Out of the 12 camaros and firebirds I have had my 91 z is number 2 as my favorite. My SS is number 1.

Yeah he is right, the 2 things I hear about my car is "Oh you got a pussymatic v6" or "DAYUM that car is so nice where/how did u get that?" The haters all drive 30 sec hondas or don't know jack about cars so I don't even listen anymore(besides girls love new clean cars) I got the gfx and T-Tops and I love my car, don't get me wrong I still want a Z more than anything but the v6 was my only option. Get a nice clean car and do some small stuff then see what you think. Anyway good luck
