Stupid Headlights Question.
Stupid Headlights Question.
Well, sorry for this overly-easy question, how can I replace the headlight bulbs on my 96 Camaro? I read somewhere the bulb #'s are 9006 and 9005, but I don't quite know how to remove the housing.. Unfortunately I don't have a users manual or the bigger service manuals..any help would be appreciated by this newbie
You technically do use 9006 bulbs, but they are enclosed in the sealed beamhousing. If you go to an auto supply shop, you'll need the sealed beam unit. Of course, you can always remove the bulb out of the glass housing and swap in your own. Do a search in the appearance section...there is a guide there if you want to do a swap.
Just to replace with a stock replacement, its easy. Remove two torx screws (one top left, one under the bulb) remove the gate, replace bulb and go back in reverse. A lot easier than doing a real HID (just did it a few months ago...not fun, but not too hard).
Good luck, it's easy...you'll get the hang of it after the first time.

You might want to get creative and replace just the bulbs inside the housing, but as mentioned, they are sealed, so you'll have to do some jimmy work to get at them.
If you go with a whole new headlight, I think they're about $25 (pretty spendy for just one). And if it's the original one, you'll likely want to replace the other ones because you'll have one really really clear one, and three older looking ones :-P
