shifting technique

Howdy. I've got just a few questions regarding heel-toe shifting and double clutching (or double de-clutching, whichever you prefer). First, I only double clutch on a downshift because I find makes the transition a bit smoother. I kept trying to double clutch while racing like Vin Diesel but couldn't seem to do it as fast as he could ;-P. Anyways, what is the max speed I can downshift from 4th to 2nd without hurting the engine if I double clutch (ex. can I downshift safetly from 50mph)? Also, how fast should I be able to perform this? As far as heel-toe, I haven't experimented with it much but is it neccessary to double clutch?
Thanks for the help,
-E

And before some of you ask, yes I perfomed a search on this already. What I found didn't directly answer my questions : ).

"E"... the only thing i can tell you is practice and get your own way.. as for your questions...? i dont even know what to say.lol umm, try it and see what your engine will do on the downshift. and dont " double clutch" it or whatever you wish to call it. on the track, just power shift it in the upper gears. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

Thanks for the input man. And don't worry, in case you didnt catch the joke, I'm perfectly aware double clutching will cost time on the track.

Can anyone else tell me how long it takes them to double clutch on a downshift? I'd like to have a general benchmark to shoot for.

Re: shifting technique

power shifting = keep gas floored, push clutch in go into next gear and let clutch out, all while you keep the car floored.

As for downshifting, you can skip double clutching just match the revs... When you downshift, put light pressure on the stick into 2nd, rev the motor up and it will slide right in when you match then go form there.... Its what I do... double clutching takes to long.

I double clutch in normal driving though.

Just to warn you be careful being too harsh on your tranny, t5s are weak and suck ***.

Terrible memories of people being 3Fast 3Thurious...

Basically just practice. You will learn what feels smooth.
