Arrow SES upon highway deceleration...

Whenever I am at 60+ mph and then decelerate, the SES light comes on and stays on for quite a while. Anyone else have this problem? Is it EGR related perhaps?

So, what you're saying is that your SES light comes on then eventually goes out? Weird...That could be any number of things. It very well could be the EGR, but that's taking a shot in the dark. Your best bet would be to go straight to a shop and get a diagnostic done as soon as it comes on. Your car doesn't act funny such as hesitation, shuddering, clicking, beeping, or even talk to you? All you get is a light when you decelerate? Does it only happen when you slow down quickly, or when you slow down all the time? Give us some more info and I'm sure someone can lead you in the right direction.

It shows no other symptoms other than the light coming on. It comes on whether i decelerate slowly or quickly. I recently changed the plugs, wires, pcv valve, o2 sensors, and cleaned the TB also, but none of that fixed it.

I may be able to help you this very day...
Mine has been doing the same thing for a while, and I am gonna meet up with a guy at lunch that has a laptop and everything to check the comp...so I will let you know what I find out...From what I have heard of these types of problems, they are usually EGR related...

You won't know for sure until you have the code pulled. I will add this though:

It does sound like the problem I had with my EGR. The EGR would come on during highway speeds when I give it light gas or when I took my foot off the gas. After 3-4 short trips, the SES would turn off. I would have no drivability problems, no power loss, nothing. Just the dumb light.

If you can clean it, see if that helps. Just might buy you some time because these EGRs are not cheap. They are easy to install though.

Good luck.

My car does this as well. I haven't gotten it checked out yet, but I think it has something to do with the backpressure in my exhaust pipes....

I have an intermittant, SES, not when I decelrate, but today at a WOT run, then me letting off it turned on after a bit it owudl shut off.

I have a supposed OBDI scanner that specifically works on 93-95 3.4Ls (listed on box) but doens't do crap for me. Maybe I cna lend it to you sometime but I am ridiculously busy, if i do make it to the track i will bring it and we can try it out in the staging lanes.

Is that one of those code scanners that make the SES light flash? If so I've got one too and I have yet to find a 3.4 Camaro that it will work on.

yep I assumed it would work since every obdI computer the jumper trick works but what the hell is with advertising that it works on a carwhen it doesn't?

Well, I got mine plugged into that guys comp, but he didn't have the right software for the 3.4L, so I guess I can't help you out any afterall...I am just gonna pull and clean my EGR and all the tubes, etc. If it just buys me some time, that's fine, I'll just get one when it dies.

I really hope its not that, because i really can't afford $250 right now...

Anyway, I'm going to the track tonight and If i'm running what other 3.4s are, then i'm not gonna worry about it. If I can manage to pull an 82-83 mph trap speed with my 3.08 open rear, then I'm ok. For those of you thinking that 3.4s didn't come with 3.08s, I needed a new rearend about 2.5 years ago and I got one out of a 97 base V6 for real cheap. Of course now I really wish I had just spent a couple hundred more and got one out of an SS or something.

I'll post my track results tonight.

Angry Track Results

Well, its official, my car sucks ***...

R/T......824
60'......2.361
330.....7.027
1/8.....10.864
MPH....64.46
1000...14.139
1/4......16.928
MPH.....80.46

compared to my old slip before before alot of maintenance and the flowmaster, as well as tonight being much cooler

old slip
R/T.......856
60'.......2.373
330......6.997
1/8.......10.835
MPH.....64.34
1000....14.135
1/4.......16.962
MPH.....78.80

Well, I picked up 1.66 mph but only dropped ET by .034 seconds. I hate my car. If my EGR isn't bad, my car needs to be driven off a cliff.

The only thing I can determine is that the 3.4 years have a b*stard PCM.

As for the advertising, I've actually thought about filing a complaint. The thing specifically says it will work with 93-95 Camaros and it won't.
