??'s about a V6..

Okay, theres this kid in my class, who has a V6 camaro. I think something is wrong with him because he's a compulsive liar..he will litterally tell you one thing, than a week later when you ask him about it..he will ask you "why you putting words in my mouth..i never said that"...anyways, he's always talking about all this **** he has on his car, he told us he had an intercooler and we just laughed are asses off..than the next day he said he meant to say "cold air intake..not intercooler" anyways..he told us his car is a 96..with a 3.8 liter..well we had him pop the hood to see all the mods he was talking about..and it ends up he has a K&N filter..and flowmasters..thats it. But, the most interesting part of it was on top of the motor it said "3.4L"...so when did they stop putting the 3.4's in the camaro?? is his car really a 96? or is it older than that..i'm almost positive that in 96 they had the 3.8..but i'm not sure..also..what kinda HP would he be making with the 3.4...with a K&N and flowmasters?? And what kinda 1/4 times/mph would this run...thanks for anyhelp..the reason i'm asking is because i never know what to believe with this kid..so i would just like to know straight up what the truth is..he claims that his car can run a 14.6....i dont believe that..so thats why i'm asking you guys! ..thanks again for any help.

I think that they had 3.4's in the 93-96. Then in 97 on up got the 3.8's. Only some 95's on up from California or something like that got the 3.8's.

3.8's were put in all V6's starting in 1996. in 1995 some of the california ones got 3.8's and the rest were 3.4's

His car with those mods would be lucky to get mid 15s.

yeah, the 96 should not have a 3.4 by factory. If its really a 96, it has a 3.8.

i disagree. 2 of my friends have 96 V6 Camaros, positive they are both 96s (well one WAS a 96, got totaled in a parking lot) and they both have the 3.4L. Looked right at the engine myself, and they are both 3.4L. So I dunno....

The first Camaro I looked at when I was buying a V6 was a 96 3.8l. On carpoint.com it shows the 96 motor as being the 3.8l and the 95 motor being the 3.4l, because most 95s were the 3.4l.

If it really bugs you to find out, you could get the VIN# of the car that isn't totaled and type it into the free part of carfax and it will tell you what year the car is and what engine it has.

The 3.8 became standard in 1996.

Unless they took out the 3.8L and put in a 3.4L. Though that would be a dumb move...

unless he is sneaky

but for the most part mid mid to low 16 car depending on how it is running and such.... if its a 3.8L

if you saw a 3.4L It is a 93-95 car only, I have never heard of a 3.4L in a newer car.

I have been around v6s for a bit and never heard of it.

3.4's only came in 93-95 camaro's. in 95 you had the option of getting a 3.8L. in 96 v6 camaro's only came w/ the 3.8L. l8tr,

1996 was all 3.8L, which was due to the OBD-II requirement. The 3.4L was done in 1995, and supposedly there were some 3.8L in 95.

I think mostly the cars sold in CA in 95 were 3.8's unless you specifically ordered it as an option, otherwise 95 was the last year of the 3.4 in f-bodies.

Here's an easy way to tell... if he has an 125 (120 solid) MPH speedo then it's a 3.8 (yes I've seen them on 96 Camaro's)... if it's just the 115 (110 solid) MPH speedo then it's a 3.4... I'm not clear but I think 3.8's came LATE 96 meaning the early 96's still got 3.4's...
