Remove Black Hood Liner??

I was just wondering if it is safe to remove the black hood liner thing that is on the bottom side of the hood? I would like to take that off and put a Camaro decal across it, but I dont want to do it if the heat will damage the paint on the outside. I have seen some cars without it, so I really dont know if it is necessary or not.
Thanks in advance,
Dustin

Re: Remove Black Hood Liner??

You can do it if you want the paint to fall off the hood like it did on my car.
The guy I bought it from pulled out all the black suff.
With in 2 years big paint loss.

That liner is there mainly to dampen any noise coming from the engine bay. Mine has been removed for a few years now and there hasn't been any issues with paint falling off.

My friend has had simple, cheap Maaco paint job (i.e. no clear coat or anything) for about 2 years (on a Neon, but still). He also removed the pad under the hood and the paint on the hood hasn't been harmed whatsoever..

Even besides that, I've never heard of the paint bubbling off or malfunctioning...

Could be the 1985 "save the wales" water based paint, too.

Pull it... seems like most modern cars don't have them any more, my 2k, never had one.

I have heard issues of flammable fluids spraying up and getting soaked in it, then catching fire and making fires worse.

Re: Remove Black Hood Liner??

alright, thanks guys. I think I'll leave it on till next spring and then pull it and get some cool Camaro decals to put on the inside of the hood. Thanks for all your help.
