Question about delayed interior lighting

I have keyless entry on my vehicle with the delayed lighting thingie. When I turnoff the car and pull my key out, usually, the interior lights come on and they turn off when I get out of the car and close the door. Sometimes however, I pull the key out, and it comes on and off intermittently, like something is loose within the system. How does the delayed lighting work? Is there a sensor with the keyhole or something that tells the car to turn the light on? You guys know what I'm talking about? Sometimes I have to wiggle the key to get the light to come on. Is it something I can fix easily? cause I don't want to take it to the dealership... they mess up stuff... they did before on my car. Thanks.

I would've checked my friend's stock 2002 Camaro, but he ain't here right now and neither is his car.

I'm going to take a shot at this one without much knowledge, so anyone please correct me if I'm wrong. Okay.....
This has to do with the ignition and how the "theft deterrant" works. If you look at your ignition key you'll see a piece of plastic with little metal thing going through the center of it. Inside the actual ignition cylinder there are two contacts, one on each side that are "hot" and when the key is inserted, the metal piece on the key completes the circuit and disarms the security system enabling you to start the car. When you remove the key after the car was started, the computer is programmed to turn on the courtesy lights when the circuit is opened. If the metal piece on your key is loose, you may not get a good contact and have an intermittent circuit causing your lights to come on and off. If this happens with the key removed and the lights still flicker, you might have a shorted wire within your ignition cylinder or possibly somewhere else in the light wiring.
I certainly hope I'm not telling you something you don't already know, but if not I hope it helps.

Yeah, actually, that does help. Thanks! I understand how the lights come on now when I pull out the key after turning the car off and the lgihts come on. I'll check my security resistor pellet on my ignition key and see what's up with it. Sounds good. I don't have a problem with my light wiring definitely... the lgihts don't flicker. They just have trouble coming on with when I pull the key in and out... I have to fidget the key a little sometimes and it'll come on... other times it comes on just fine. It's probably the key and not the contact inside the keyhole right? I'd hate to get that repaired or even looked at by the dealership... I am very picky about the dealership.. they've screwed up stuff on my car while I turned it into them for service or either fixed my existing problem only to create another one!!! Some of you guys know what I'm talking about too!
