Pull motor through bottom or top?

Pull motor through bottom or top?
I see the V8 guys drop the engine through the bottom by removing the entire suspension and all. But on a V6 (3.8) is it easier or harder dropping engine through bottom verses just taking hood off and pulling motor that way?
This 3.8 has what sounds like a rod knock but then other times it doesn't.
