Angry Problems after hosing my engine off!

I decided to degrease my engine today and 15 mins later i hosed it off. I didnt over water it and did my best to not drown the electronics but when i went to start the car it had a high idle at 2000 rpms and fluctuated to 2200 rpms I decided to let it dry off. So i drove it 2 hours later and still the same. My car would stay at around 45 mph with out me touching the gas due to the high idle. Also when i would try to accelerate from a stop light the car would want to stall out unless i lightly touched the gas first. Secondly the car did not want to shift into 3rd gear and later into 2nd. This transmission and engine issue would get worse as the engine got hotter. I came up to a hill and the transmission lost all its grab and would not accelerate the car. I had no issues with the transmission prior to watering the engine. I checked the trans fluid and its full. My car is a 1995 camaro 3.4L with an automatic transmission. I am assuming that its an opti issue but I also understand that the transmission is somewhat electronically controlled and if any one could give me some feedback on to what they think may be shorted out on these issues. One last thing, i pulled the plug on the throttle position sensor while it was running and there was no change but when i pulled the idle air control plug off the idle cam back to down to almost normal at around 1000 rpms. thanks

I can tell you for sure that you don't have an optispark, but aside from that, I don't know much about idiosyncrasies the 3.4. Hopefully all the things you got wet will eventually dry out. Monitoring with a scanner by someone who knows what they are looking at might be of some help.

Thanks very much for the reply shoebox! Turns out I shorted my throttle position sensor. Slapped a new one in and ALL problems fixed! I learned my lesson. Im NEVER hosing an engine off again even though I have 3 or 4 other times! And yes you were right, no optispark thanks

The LS1s had the aluminum block, pretty sure the 3.8s were still made out of iron.

you can hose it off, just let it sit for a day or so to make SURE everything is dry before starting it. I even unhook the battery to not short anything out.

Thanks to all that replied. I will definately take your advice into consideration. It runs great now as if nothing ever happened. I apparently shorted or shocked my throttle position sensor. Thank goodness thats all that was broke. The symptoms where a bit unnerving.
