Performance parts for 3.4

I am trying to find performance parts for my 95 3.4 but i am struggling. Right now I have a catback, cai, and aluminum driveshaft installed. I know buying a z28 would make more sense but that isn't an option for me. Any advice would help a lot, thanks

Re: Performance parts for 3.4

I am not aware of any V6 guys around these days, most of us still around are LT1. I would just suggest keeping it as is and enjoying it for what it is. For quite awhile I had an RS and an SS; the RS was a fun daily where the SS was my project.

As mentioned above, not a lot of V6 owners seem to come here any more - sad, but true. I'm not a 3.4L V6 owner, but I can suggest areas where you may be able to find what you are looking for.

Manual or automatic trans? You can make it feel faster, and pull harder off the line by going to a numerically higher rear axle ratio. Check the Service Parts Identification label to see what rear axle ratio you have now. It will be a 3-character code starting with “GU” followed by a single number:

GU2 = 2.73
GU4 = 3.08
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42

I believe those are the ratios GM used in the 95 F-Body.

If you have an automatic, a “high stall” torque converter will also enhance straight line acceleration. The converter allows the engine to reach higher RPM off the line, putting it into an RPM range where the engine makes higher torque.

Address the exhaust. Catback was a good start, but look for exhaust headers. Then you'll need to go inside the engine and upgrade the camshaft and valve train. At some point, you may need larger fuel injectors. Not sure if anyone ports stock 3.4L heads, or makes replacement heads.

Make more power, and you should consider a used rear axle assembly from a V8 model, with disc brakes to stop better, and a limited slip differential (RPO code G80) to prevent one-wheel burnouts.

Make sure you’re ignition is sound - ignition control module, coils, wires, and plugs. Nothing expensive - just quality stock replacements.

After any significant change(s) you will need a good computer tune. Even changing the rear axle ratio requires programming to correct the speedometer/odometer.

I believe there are forums that specifically address the V6 4th Gens. Hate to say it, but you may find more specific info on one of those. I believe I have seen magazine articles as well. You could also try a “search” of our V6 forum, with key words like headers, cam/camshaft, heads, etc.

“95convertible” hasn’t signed into this site since January 2021. Guess he wasn’t to happy with our responses or just didn’t follow up to let us know if he found them useful.

I notice your profile indicates you live in Vietnam. Are there many 3.4L Camaros there? Please let us know. Oh, wait - you just quoted his original post and buried some SPAM in his comments. Very clever. But I deleted the SPAM link.
