overheating HELP

Well the other day the car started leaking antifreeze, so figured it was the waterpump since its orignal 110K mile part so i replaced that, now the car is running hot then overheats when you stop at a light. When driving it stays around 210 degree, stoped it goes from 210 all the way to about 230ish within 2 minutes. Before the waterpump was replaced it ran about 195 degrees all the time. I also replaced the thermostat today. The car is a 94 3.4 camaro.

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Re: overheating HELP

Yea, I've had to drain the cooling system more times than I can remember. But there is no bleed on the 3.4 so what I usually do is let it heat up to about 230ish then let it cool to ambient temp. Take of the pressure cap and top off the radiator and make sure the bottle is full. The thermostat usually has issues opening unless it has coolant on it (it requires a higher temp if its air). Make sure the hose going to the thermostat has coolant in it. Just keep cycling it, heat up then cool off, until the radiator is full and it holds a constant temp. You will usually hear a gurgling sound when it finally pops and coolant flows into the block. It will stabilize eventually.

Re: overheating HELP

Ok, you aren't going to notice "air coming out." What you will notice is the radiator being low after the engine cools back down. You won't notice the radiator being low while the engine is warm because the cooling system is under pressure, so if you take the pressure cap off, it will be full or dump coolant everywhere. So, if you have waited for the engine to cool completely and it still overheats I would replace the thermostat. If the coolant seems dirty, think about flushing the cooling system. Feel the hoses, if they don't flex when you squeeze them, they could be blocked. Most importantly, make sure it is not still leaking. If my 3.4 is even the slightest bit low on coolant, it gets mad and overheats on me.
