Option Code Questions

Does anyone know the GM Option codes for traction control and the limited slip differential in a 99 38L Firebird. I'm lookin for something more specific than the y87 pckg.

I got my car inspected today, and the mechanic I usually go to wasnt there, so someone else did it. Now he was sayin that I got traction control because my LOW TRAC light came on while they were trying to use the exhaust dyno. My car also wanted to go off the dyno when they were revvin her, so the guy also said I had a limited slip. From my understanding, I did not have either one of these items, ad the dealer said I didn't either (when i called them 9 months ago to ask), so any help would be appreciated. thanks.

to test and see if you have LSD, you'll have to do this nice little test :

1.- start your engine.
2.- step on the brake
3.- shift to OD (or DO (I'm not sure)).
4.- step on the gas while releasing the brake.
5.- do a burn out.

If only one wheel spins. you have yourself a peg legger, like I do.

and to tell if you have traction control, there should be a traction control button in the glove compartment. I also have that low trac light on my car, but that means that your rear wheels are turning faster than the front.

I'm sure there are better ways to know, but, I'm no aware of them.

There is nothing above the stereo? I do not know if it is different but one my console I have an ASR button. But that low traction light just means basically what is going on with the rear tires. Everytime I hit a puddle of water and step on it, my low traction light comes on. Even if you did have an LSD, would that light still come on?

there is no button anywhere to turn off the traction control, so contrary to what I was told yesterday, I do not belive that I have it. I know where the button should be, but there is no button on my car, so I don't believe I have it. But as for the LSD, I;m still not sure... . My car still wont let me dso a burnout (which is annyoing, but soince I just washed her, I do not think I will be trying again til it rains .

Thanks for all your help, and if anyone else knows that would rule too.

LSD: G80

If you have traction control, you should have an SGS (Second Gear Start) button (I can check the code on my car tonight). That would be on the dash, behind the shifter, under the radio. The newer LS1s (2000+) will start in second if the selector is PUT in second. I don't think ours will - something may have changed though.

I can't remember if the 1999 cars are drive-by-wire (I think they are with the revised upper intake manifold), but if they are, there's a TSB about sluggish start and 100% throttle unattainable with the DBW system - you might want to check into that as well.
