Re: old gas!!

Just burn it. In the engine.
That is what I did, I toped off what had evaporated out of the gas tank with new gas and kept on driving.

Replied in other thread. I would not take the advice above, unless you dislike your vehicle or love replacing fuel parts. To each his own though.

Re: old gas!!

What parts might that be?
I'll list all the parts that broke on my Z28 after I started it up after being in japan for 3 years:
Broken door handle.
flat tire.
Dead battery.

Re: old gas!!

just unhook the fuel line and use a jumpper wire to supply 12 volts to the trigger wire on the fuel pump relay . besure to catch the bad gas in a bucket or something . then have fun that nigh with a huge bonfire. fill a 2 liter bottle up with the old stuff and toss it in from 50 feet away youlll get a nice mushroom cloud. ...........just kidding the bonfire idea is a bad idea .

Re: old gas!!

When gas sits for a long period of time, it starts to break down and turn into a varnish material. Long story short, it can wreak havoc on your whole fuel injection system. If you can't siphon it, I would drop the tank and get all of that old fuel out. That is me personally though. I would also change the fuel filter as well.

Like I said, it is just a matter of personal preference. If the car has been sitting that long, I would assume that there would be buildup of crud at the bottom of the tank. That is why I would just drop it and wash it out. To each their own.

I don't know enough about all of this to say for sure but I would think if what you say about the varnish is correct (not saying it isn't) the damage is already done as there was gas all the way to the injectors for the whole period. Draining the tank won't do much other than give him fresh, higher octane fuel in the aftermath. The loss of octane is the most publicized effect regarding the decomposition to "stale" gasoline.

In my uneducated opinion I would add a gallon or two of Xylene or Toluene to boost the octane if pinging is an issue, throw in a fuel system cleaner and then fill the tank with premium. Repeating what I'm thinking, if the varnish deposits have already accumulated through the TB, fuel rails, tank and possibly the injector(s), then that effect is history and I don't see a benefit of draining the system. Cleaning the injectors directly would be the most extreme thing I would consider. 2¢ in....
