Need some brains for my v6 3.4's issues...

The car has quite a history. The odometer currently reads 201K + mileage and the current engines mileage is uncertain. My brother who owns a 94' v8 has done a lot of the repairs to keep it running. But here is what is currently troubling me:

The car's engine is making a quiet "pop" noise when accelerating. It even has started bucking when given gas at certain times. It also shakes pretty violently, but that is most definitely the result of worn engine mounts. Driving it has become a chore and I'm hoping some of you guys can throw out some suggestions here to help the repair process. Last thing, when turning on the vehicle the fuel burns extremely rich leaving a blinding cloud of exhaust behind the car.

P.S. A remote starter was just installed in the vehicle and it was a faulty unit that is being replaced by DesignTech's warranty. Could that have any ill affect on the engine? Other than that, the oil is changed every 3K and it burns a little oil and loses a little coolant. I keep both the oil/coolant at the full mark because of this w/ a constant monitoring of both levels.

Thanks in advance,
Sean

Could you provide a little more info. Has there been any recent tune up work done to the car, any other issues, or any modifications done?

Hey 2000GTP,

No other tune-ups, issues, or mods recently done to the vehicle other than the remote starter installation.

Thanks for the reply

Did these running issues develop immediately after the remote starter was installed? How long has it been since the plugs and wires have been changed?

Not sure about the wires...

Plugs were changed a few months back I believe but we are thinking that the fuel injection is leaking either oil or fuel onto the plugs causing the rich reaction and fouling up the plugs...

This may be a little off topic on my own post but I was considering taking out a loan to have an engine/transmission replacement done to the car. Anyone have any good sites to find cheap mildly used eng/trannies?

I really like this car and want to keep it for years and years to come.

Thanks,
Sean

If it is running rich, I would look the car over for any vacuum or exhaust leaks. Also, it wouldn't hurt to do a fuel pressure test if you have a fuel pressure gauge handy.

The issues happened about a week after the installation and thanks for all your help. I will do that pressure test as soon as I get my hands on a gauge. Very much appreciated!

I would suggest checking wires. Start the car in the dark with the hood up and look for spark that could be jumping through the wire.

What color is the smoke on startup? If it is just a brief burst of blue-white smoke it is most likely oil that has leaked past the valve seals. Pretty normal for that kind of mileage heads.

You mentioned white smoke is coming out of the exhaust and it loses some coolant. Those are some symptoms of a bad head gasket. How is the condition of the motor oil, is it milky in appearance?
