I want to go w/ 17" for better handling. Should 18"s be placed in the rear? Will it help too? no?
What are the best SHOCKS???
[POLL]
Bilstein, QA1(HAL), KYB, Monroe, Gabriel?
[/POLL]
I'm leaning towards the QA1(HAL) or Bilsteins!
thnx

Re: n00b ?? wheels and shocks
I have KYB shocks personally but Bilstiens would prolly be best (but theyre a bit pricey'er). Anywho, you have the whole tire size thing backwards. As far as handleing is concerned, the smaller the sidewall on the tire, then better. Opposite goes for drag racing. So 18's would be "better" since you would have to use a smaller sidewalled tire. You could put tires with a small sidewall on 17s but it wouldn't look right.
im sorry i dont quite understand
slap me if im wrong but
17s are better for handling
and 18s are better for draging
seems the bigger the wheel/tire the better the gas mileage?
sounds right
we have low profile for better handling
i was really gonna go with all 17s but some idiots i saw had 17s in front and 18s in back, thats opposite, wrong
thank you sir

Re: n00b ?? wheels and shocks
if you have a 17 inch tire, the sidewall (middle number in the tire size) is usually 45 or 40 (mine are 275/40/17). with 18s you pretty much have to get 35. for drag racing it is better to have a bigger sidewall (high middle number) so you can get some flex in it for good traction off the line. alot of drag rims are 15 inches so that you can fit slicks with huge sidewalls.
handling wise it is the opposite. you want a very thin sidewall (low middle number) so that you dont have flex to keep traction around corners. if you have a tall sidewall and turn fast you will roll on the side of the tire if you know what i mean and there isnt tread there so you will be more likely to loose traction.
Hope that was easier to understand.
Oh, and the only reason you would think that you are getting better gas mileage with a bigger wheel is because your computer thinks that a smaller wheel is still on when the big wheel is really on and a big tire covers more ground in one turn than a small one. For instance, lets say a 15 inch rim with a 255/40/15 tire will cover 3 feet in one complete turn. now an 18 inch wheel with a 255/40/18 tire will cover about 5 feet per turn since it is bigger but your computer will still think that the smaller tire is there. Understand?

thanx for the specific explanation! could you please tell me what i need? (an example) lol good handling and good dragging. (ex: 215/45 /17 front and 235/55/17 rear)
my stock came with all 235/55/16s
i guess i should go with all the same so i can rotate/switch out the tires every 6k miles.
i dont see what the computer has to do with gas mileage. it doesnt show your MPG. so you really arent getting any more or any less MPG. (thats what youre saying right?)
it will appear on your MPH that youre going faster cause computer thinks youre running smaller tires
so bigger wheels wont get better gas mileage?
Time for BED!! aggh NIGHT!
