How many gallons does a gas tank of a '01 3800 Camaro hold? Is it the same gas tank used in the LS1 cars?
I'm trying to figure out what mpg I am getting with this car. I have heard that our gas tanks hold 16.8 gallons. If this is correct, I am getting a little over 300 miles per tank.
300 / 16.8 = 17.8 mpg
That doesn't seem to be very good for my car. I have a 5 speed tran and thought I would get better gas milage.
In an effort to get more miles per tank, I try to shipt around 2500 rpms and keep my crusing speed at 2000 rpms.
What do you 5 speed 3800 guys shift at an cruise at?

Not sure about your capacity since mine is different. But I think your calculations are off.
Unless you are driving your car until it runs out of gas (which I doubt you are doing), don't divide by a full tank.
Example: Odometer reads 300 miles...you refill with 10 gallons. Since you refill with 10 gallons, you used 10 gallons. 300/10=30 mpg
Just take the miles you drove on that tank and divide that # by how many gallons you pump in.

On my 94 3.4L automatic with 96,000 plus miles, I average 18 - 23 MPG depending on how much city driving I do.
I have a 21 mile one way commute to work, mostly on interstate, so alot of my miles come from that.
The best MPG I have ever gotten was 28. That was on a 12 hour one way trip down the interstate. For the whole trip I was between 27 and 28 MPG.

I consitenty get 26 with my A4, flowmaster, and K&N filter. It comes out around 400 whem i fill it.
As far as shifting goes I average shift at 2800 and keep it reving around 2000.

Last time I checked I was getting only 20 mpg. But that is a lot of city driving, and shifting (automatic) between 2500-3000 RPMS.
I've noticed a difference since I put the Lid on, but haven't done the math yet. Do you guys usually notice a difference after the Lid or any intake mod?

My best average that I calculated was 28.8.. part city, part highway.
On the last tank of gas, I hit 252miles when the needle got to the 1/2 tank mark (which isn't really half a tank... the way the gauge moves). At any rate, I'm making 30+ highway with my auto and 3.42's.

I cut my cat off and run dynomax muffler with a 5 speed i get 30 on the highway and 22 in town. Since i have put on the ram air hood i noticed lower rpms at the same speed where they were higher without the ram air hood. it seems likes the mods have given a litte better gas mileage.

Just got back from all highway driving and averaged 36.5 mpg. 450 miles / 12.2 gallons...ya I was shocked too for cruising mostly at 75mph and about 2k RPMs...it's a 2000 bird with 5 speed manual and i'm running premium gas with HPP3 tuned to high performace, holley power shot filter, lid, and B&B triflow exhaust...and mobil 1 synthetic everywhere
i get about 23 mpg, that was w/ 75 percent highway driving at 85 mph. not too bad for a 3.4 w/ 180,000 + miles
. l8tr,
oh yeah, and i dont' have any cats on my car!
