Re: modded v6 worth v8 ?

If you really want v8, but the factory v8 car.

I have sorta' thought of an LT1 swap in my 95 3.4L car, since I got it for $200 with a bad engine, but I don't like the thought of the Opti-spark and running premium fuel versus v6 coil packs and regular gas for what will be a Sunday cruiser anyway. I don't race, either, and I want something semi easy to work on.

There is plenty that can be done to the 3.4L, mainly the porting/polishing of the intake manifold and heads, since they flow so poorly, if you don't want to go through with an aluminum head swap which isn't necessarily a walk in the park.

Clarify. More power compared to the v6? Sure, more cylinders and neither has a turbo/supercharger, so all things are even otherwise.

What can be done to a 4 cylinder can be done to a v6 or v8 in a broad sense--cams, head work, forced induction, valves, etc. What else is there to know in that regard?

First off, there is no 94 RS. it's just a "Coupe"

Second off, having been in your situation. I went with the V8.

It would have cost me $1500 for headers, and a top end, and a posi and that would've got me barley into the 14's most likely.

It cost me $4,000 for my Z which is in the 13's.

If you want real power, your car can't give it to you, get an LT1 Camaro.

3.4L are not as fun as the 3.8L; when it comes down to modding. If you are planning to spend thousands of dollars in that motor; just get a LT1 or a cheat LS1. It is a pain and more pain trying to make a v6 fast.

v8 especially with a 3.4L... even if oyu do mod the hell out of it, being able to tune it get the power you mad by modding it is very very vey very very vefry very very very hard.

Re: modded v6 worth v8 ?

Good points made by everybody, sure there are some things you can do to your v6, but the aftermarket is huge for the LT1s. A swap is definitely possible, but it takes alot of work and runs into some money to get all of the donor parts. It is alot easier to pick up an LT1 equipped F-body. Heck, my cousin bought his 93 z28 with around 50 thousand miles and a mint condition body for only 2500 bucks.

Come to Illinois! I work with a guy who just bought a 87 Iroc with a 350 that is in good running order from an old lady for only a 100 bucks. Deals are out there, you just have to have some luck and keep your eyes open.
