misfires on cylinder 6

So says ODB-II.

Since it's only on cylinder 6, I'm assuming the ICM is okay. Coil packs are only two years old. Replacing the plugs today didn't help. Before I spend my time/money on the wires, is there anything else it could be?

You could try swapping a wire from cylinder 6 to another cylinder and see if the misfire follows. Another problem might be a clogged fuel injector, if that is the case, then you could try pressure flushing it before purchasing a new injector. If the injector, plug, wire, or coil pack isn't the problem, then I would start to look for a mechanical fault.

How would I go about doing this? I know my way around the engine bay, but I wouldn't say I'm exactly a gearhead.

You would have to take it to a shop to have the injectors flushed.

Also, make sure the TB is clean, and also the MAF. Look real closely at the MAF to make sure there's no buildup on the sensors. If there is, you have to VERY CAREFULLY and very lightly scrape the residue from the wires. I had that problem and it made my car misfire like crazy. Cleaned the TB and MAF and it ran perfectly.

im in the same boat as you...I have a misfire on cylinder 4...changed plugs and wires ..didnt help tried new coil packs, didnt help...the machanic says its the number 4 injector...funny thing is it only does it at idle....when I give it gas the miss goes away...he had it hooked to one of those things that you plug into the ecm and you can watch the misfire....goes away when I rev it up as soon as it starts to idle it starts missing bigtime!...even the SES light starts to blink fast.

what should I do? change the injector? thats what he says....

Flushing the injectors will probably be cheaper then having it replaced. You could see if he can do that for you first.

yeh but then what if its doesnt fix the problem,..then I just wasted the money on that.

does it sound to you like its just clogged? cause the miss goes away when I give it gas? just when idling it misses. ...would gettting the injectors flushed fix that ?

thanks!

Check the compression. You might also have a small vacuum leak at that cylinder. Swap the plugs & wires like posted earlier...maybe you'll get lucky.
Last time I looked, the injectors are $80-150 EACH.

Yeah, I saw that thread, but the thing is that the problem continued even right after I'd replaced the plugs and wires -- before the engine even had time to get hot again.

Well, the misfire is cylinder specific. It sounds like you have access to a scanner. Although it is some work involved, you could also try swapping a fuel injector from cylinder 6 to another cylinder. If the problem follows, then it is safe to say that the injector is clogged.

At this point, I'm leaning more toward a partially blown head gasket. My exhaust has been nice and white, and the oil's looking a bit milky. I've already tried everything else (except for the injector). I'm going to try some Blue Devil laster today and see if that does anything for it.

I could believe that. It's not as if the 3.8L isn't known for that intake manifold gasket issue...that's what took out the 3.4L I bought last year.

When you changed the plugs, specifically plug #6, did you read it and did it give you a hint of a blown gasket of some sort? (Please say you read them...)
