MAFS screen

Has anyone ever taken the silencer intake junk off the front of the throttle body and seen that honeycomb screen thing in front of the MAFS. Well I read on a 300zx board that you can pick up a pony or two from taking it out (on a 300zx anyway) so i popped it out on my car. Well no complaints...i think i may have picked up a little bit between 50 and 70 mph but it may be wishfull thinking. Anyway just wondering if anyone else has done this and if so what were your results?

There are mixed feelings on descreening the MAF. I have after market MAF ends that don't have the screen, didn't "feel" any gain. I doubt it hurts performance. The only thing that worries me is something getting into the engine because I saw a pine needle on the screen one time. I wonder what the previous owner did to get a pine needle there.

I'd just leave it in, no reason to cause any motor problems from something maybe getting in there for little to no gain what's so ever.

Re: MAFS screen

There are the do's and don't mods. I think
the screen is one of them. I took mine off
and like every one else there was no real
differents, but I have a good air filter and
I'm not worried about it (K&N)

Re: MAFS screen

In the '98 and down, it can cause a rough idle and slight hesitation at low throttle settings. In the '99 up, with the straighter intake tract, it seems to be ok to remove.
