LSD / 3.73's
Hey,
I see a lot of places have LSD for about $100:
Differential, O.E.M. Zexel-Torsen Camaro/Firebird - $94.50
Is this all that's required? Can any shop basically put this on with no other parts? Also, how hard would it be? What would labor charges typically be? Same questions go for gears (3.73). Is it best to get them both installed at the same time?
Let Me Know,
Thanks,
Kevin

any shop should be able to do it. definately have them do it at the same time as the gears. go to slponline and get the take-out diff from a LS1 car. definately worth the investment. that should be all u need. mabey a new crush sleeve.

go to www.thunderracing.com and order some Motive gears
they are the quietest gears out there IMO.

More gear means more torque to the wheels. Whatever power you have at the engine gets mulitplied by your transmission gear ratio and your final drive ratio.
So 200 HP x 0.74 (M5 5th) x 3.23 = 478 multiplied horsepower
but 200 HP x 0.74 x 3.73 = 552.
The bigger number will accelerate faster.
Now true, the faster you accelerate (being dependant on gearing) the slower your top end speed will be. But it's not like it kills it.
In stock form the 3.23 gearing has a theoretical top speed of 172 MPH (if it had the power to pull that - which it don't)
With 3.73's your top speed is decreased only by 23 MPH - leaving you with a 149 MPH top end speed. When was the last time you went 149 MPH in your V6??????
If you have more power (by increased gearing) going to the overdrive gear, it is going to pull harder. Top speed is only slightly decreased. But the decrease is so insignificant, because I have yet to see an A-typical modified V6 F-body breech 140 MPH!!! Just not enough power so gearing really isn't even a factor.
