lowering

Alright guys...need your advice. I'm thinkin about lowerin my car here as soon as my tax returns arrive hehe. Thing is, is that when i lower the car, that black baffle on the bottom to scoop air up to the radiator will scrape on EVERYTHING as it does very often as it is now, with stock suspension. What have you guys who already have lowered your car done? did u just remove it or what? please let me know. thanks.

doesnt sound like much, but heres a tip....research ur state laws for ride height, try to drive a lowerd car b4 u lower yours to feel the diff

I lowered mine a little over 1.75" with Eibach v8 springs and Koni SA shocks. I put the springs on the lower perch on the fronts, and trimmed 1/2" off the top of the rubber isolater on the rears.

That black piece is flexible, so it will be ok. Don't remove it because it will reduce the air flow through the radiator.

I do have to go slowly over speed bumps, some I have to avoid entirely.

The front rides good, the back is a little too stiff. But I wanted better (stiffer) springs for autocrossing.

would it be ok to trim the black plastic piece a bit then? maybe hack off an inch or so? do you scrape it alot going over speed bumps and leaving parking lots? because as it is now, i do quite often...but i think lowering my car would make it look bad *** and would make it corner better than it already does stock.

Most people I know that lowered just removed it.

Scrapes bad enough on a stock car.

well i have a wings west w-type kit on my 97.. it comes with a new, even bigger, "black thing" mine scrapes everywhere and its not lowered and even riding on 18's... but.. i am planning to do air ride on mine.. and when i do to get the drop i want this thing will need to go.. i have put just the stock back on and it raised the engine temp 20 degrees roughly.. should have the ssame affect when just removing the stock one without ground effects.. i am planning on putting the stock one back in and then putting in a 160 thermo to compensate for the extra 20 degrees.. maybe u should try that

You might be able to trim some off, but I don't think it's much more than an inch as it is...

I don't scrape the front over speed bumps, but I do scrape the cat and the exhaust pipe.

The ground effects on the sides are what I worry about scraping now. (but they haven't yet).
