Re: lost my keys HELP!!!

Either way it will cost you an arm and a leg. You will be best off going to a dealership with the vin number and a copy of your title/registration to prove its your car. The F-Body keys from third gens up have to be cut by hand and cant be cut by a machine. A dealership will probably be cheaper because they can actually get the keycode from the vin whereas the locksmith cant. Expect to pay upwards of $50 though.

Trust me, I know alllll about this - when I worked at Sundance Chevrolet we had to get keys cut ALL the time because dumb *** salesmen and managers would lose them ALL the ****in time!

Edit: Oh, and its not too old at all. Same design in keys for 3rd and 4th gens 1982-2002 were all the same style of key.

Re: lost my keys HELP!!!

i had to get a new key cut for my 89, and the dealership couldnt do it because it was too old and they only keep info for so long they said, and i believe my 89 was a single sided theft lock thing, and my camaro and firebird are double sided. but i guess ill be callin the dealer and the locksmith tomarow and see whos cheaper!!

hmm, weird. Because my key for my 95 is a single sided with the theft protection/chip in it... And so was the key for the one I had to get cut for the 99 when I worked there.

Not sure if it helps but the going rate for the key with resistor in it(4th gen keys) is ~$27-30 to copy. Not sure if they charge different or not.

The only reason I say upwards of $50 is how big of a PITA they want to be about cutting the key(s) by hand.
