A little help please..

Ok...so...I know this is probably a very easy question to use the "search" funtion for, but, my computer sucks and it took me 2 days to finally be able to post a message.

If I can get a 99 camaro with a V6 with 70,000 miles with the body in GREAT shape....would it be worth it to buy it for 3,000? Keeping in mind that as soon as I get back from Iraq I plan to do a little "modifying." With that...how much do you guys think it would cost...estimate...to get a high 12 second 1/4 mile car...with a new 6 speed transmission? This one already has a 5 speed transmission in it, but, I basically want to make an SS out of it.

My brother has one on his car lot that he'd sell me for 3,000, so, I'm considering buying it. Or do you guys know of some better ways to go about it? I'll have about 15,000 cash to use on this.

Thanks guy appreciate it.

Re: A little help please..

I've done as much reading as my computer would allow...and..I see there's a ton that goes into this swap.

So...let me narrow the question down and make it a simple yes or no. If I take a 99 V6 5-speed that costs 3,000 dollars, and turn it into an LS1 6-speed with pretty much all SS parts, having a shop do all the work, am I going to be spending more money than I would just buying an SS?

Sorry if this question has been asked, but, I don't know a ton about cars, just always wanted an SS, and, being in the Marine Corps. I don't have much time to research.

Thanks again.

It would be easier to buy the LS1 SS originally. Swapping all those parts in can cost a lot more than 15,000. You can find nice SS camaros for around that, although they might have some higher milage.

For your goals, getting a SS would be more time and money efficient.

good to go. Thanks guys. But...if I were happy with just an LS1 6-speed, then, it'd be a pretty good idea for 3,000, right? Without any other "SS" stuff.

Re: A little help please..

You just want the T56 with the 3.8L?

Wouldn't bolt up with at least an adapter (different bell patterns) and for the cost of a T56, you could still buy an LS1-equipped car for the cost of your car and a new T56.

Besides, a .50 6th is almost useless with a v8, it won't get enough revs to make any use with a v6 either. Unless you like stalling out on the highway.
