just bought a 88 V6 for 600 bucks

Hey guys, I just bought a V6 camaro for 600 bucks from a dude at wal-mart. It runs well, good shape over all, I think, for 600 bucks. Anyway, I was just wondering what kinda stuff I could do to the car to give it a little more pep, and also, what kinda problems do those 2.8's have with them? thanks.

Congrats. I guess...

Since you have a Z28 already, just spend your money to that to make it even faster. Let's face it, you will not get a fast 2.8 no matter what you do to it.

Unless you plan on yanking everything out of it and putting something else in.

Anyway, if you absolutely have to do something to it, start with the basics: K&N, headers (available???), exhaust, gears etc.

Good luck!

Not normally, but I saw the car sitting there with a for sale sign in the window, so I called him up and ran to the bank. It runs really well, the interior is not so good, nor is the outside. But hey, it runs good.

But boy is it slow, what are the hp and tq ratings on those things?

Im sorry

I am soo sorry for you. I had an 89 2.8 RS all stock and the thing was gutless. I even had high gears on it. But, it still just wouldn't go. I did beat a civic once! If I were you, i would detail it and try to sell it for 2,000 and buy a body kit for your Z-28

Soo congrats anyway

Its ok, Im sure I'll get some fun out of it. I could tell right off the bat the thing had no power. Ah well, I'll probably just drive it around untill the damn thing brakes down, then I'll just leave it there.

forever....until the engin blows. it was strong as hell up until 125,000 though. i think i did somethin wrong changein oil. no leaks but my brother drove it a couple hundred miles that night and blew motor next day. i found a rebuild by goodwrench layin around at a junkyard. outta a car with 60,000 so since its rebuild its got less than that on it;-). i like my 95 better though

I shattered a pisont over reving it at 120k, in my 85 2.8L

Its a good daily driver, funny I sold my 85 with not motor in it, and a trashed tranny for $500

Course my exterior and interior were in above average shape.

like said same normal mods, freeing up the exhaust will help it out a bit, and 2.8Ls sound mena like a boat motor, when you ahve no exhasut on them.

I would love to ahve a 2.8l at the moment, gives you more downtime on your car you like to mod and fix.

Biggest improvement with v6 60* is a swap to a 3.4L, its same block you can reuse all your accessories, fuel injection and what ever. Bolts right in and its rated 160 hp, and 200 ft. lbs of torque.

Thats what i wodul consider doing if the motor does go capuut, and you wnat ot keep it.

the guys that really got performnace out of 2.8Ls are the fiero guys, they ahve put in turbo kits and many other things to get the motor up and going. But if you are ever looking for serious power to compete in the world, swap in a v8.

yep I ahve seen it, done.

i would consisder bulding up a small blcok, I here lt1s are a bitch to swap into 3rd gens, and with the amount of money spent you could get a mean small block or even big block in the car. When I killed my motor I had plans for a 383 sroker swap, but college came up and lack of money, and workplace forced me to sell the car.

What would be so difficult? Is there something with these third gens that clashes with the LT1?

At least from what I've read, you would need to fabricate your own custom headers or use just stock manifolds to make the engine fit in the engine bay.
