Post Help installing an 8" Kenwood tube on my 01 Camaro w/ Monsoon package

There is an amp built into the tube, so is there a port in the back of my headunit for this tube or do I have to get a new headunit?

You have 2 options, purchase a PAC OEM-1 to get line level outs to power your tube, or you can simply tap the leads from BEHIND the HU to get a full range signal if you tube as speaker level inputs. DO NOT tap any speakers in the car for the signal...they all have "issues" such as being HP x-over, or 2 ohms, or a combination of the 2.

For more informatino, check out the FAQ's at the top of the Electronics Forum over at www.ls1.com Everything you could possible want to know about the Monsoon system is there.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link, but I seem to have trouble finding the FAQ you are talking about, can you post a more direct link?

And can I pick up a PAC OEM-1 from radioshack? Would line levels be better than the full range signal?

Thanks

The Electronics Forum is srewed up at the moment...one of the moderators thought it would be a great idea to put all the FS itemes at the top of the forum, so now the FAQ post has been bumped into a sea of FS adds. Here's a direct link though:

You won't be able to find a PAC OEM-1 at Radio Shack. You MIGHT be able to find one at a local car audio shop, but they'll probably have to order it since they are vehicle specific. You can check it out at www.go2pac.com and I believe they're avaiable online at www.affsave.com

Line level is a full range signal. If you're referring to a speaker level signal, if your tube can handle speaker level inputs, then tap the speaker leads directly behind the HU for the best results. Read the FAQ's at ls1.com and that should answer your questions.

If you want to do this right you will want to scrap the Monsoon system and get a new radio. Then get all new speakers and bypass all the amplifiers by running speaker wire from the back of the radio to each speaker. Then you will have a good cables from the back of the radio right to the tube. If you didn't have the monsoon system you would be alright but that is going to be more of a headache then what it's worth.

This is just my honest opinion after being in sales and installation for 2 years.
