That's not what's causing the engine to jerk...at least the gas being 89 octane, that is.

the octane shoudln't have caused any problems.

If its only happened since the last tank of gas, I would just assume its a bad tank of gas(everynow and then you cna get a ****ty tank of gas, that has water in it)

I say try to run it down then get a new tankfull.

now if you still have other problems after that, check fuel filter, plugs/wires, cat.

then coils.

The octane should have no ill effect on the car. Bad gas, however, as already mentioned can definitely cause a world of problems. Is the SES light on? Was the car acting any differently before putting in the gas?

Sounds all most like a tank of puke gas, every once and a great while diesel gets mixed with gas at the station on accident.

The SES light is on,, somtimes it blinks thats when the car jerks really bad..... i put some fuel injector and carb cleaner in and it smoothed out just a little bit but it still jerks and back fires

I had the same problem and it turned out to be one of my coils, bring ur car to auto zone if theres 1 near u n they will plug into your computer under your dash, it sounds like u have a cylinder misfire, the computer will tell you which cylinder/cylinders r misfiring, then start by changing the plug, if thats not it try wire, if thats not it its most likely your coil, a new coil cost like 35 at napa

It definitely sounds like a misfire, but scanning the car will really give you some helpful clues. If you did indeed get some bad gas, that can easily clog up the injectors resulting in misfires.
