Headlights/Foglights
Ok guys I got a problem here and need some help. My headlights and foglights suck and need replacing. The problem I am running into is that apparently the 93-97 have thier own special kind and noone sells them. I found some regualr halogen lamps at the auto parts stores, but want something brighter. I know sylvania.com sells the headlights in silverstars, but that's the only ones I could find and would like to know if there are any others. My fog lights are very dim, and you cannot even tell that they are on, and one is all buted and cracked which doesn't help matters. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find some better ones??
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Hi Tiffany.
Yup, 93-97 headlights just plain suck. Our headlights are sealed inside of the glass housing (I forget the exact P/N#) but what we can do is take out the actual bulb from the stock housing, keep the glass housing, and put in a 9006 bulb.
Silverstars are OK. They look whiter and cleaner than the regular halogens but they put off less light. They are the same wattage as stockers and IMO the light output is less. For the price, I would advise against them. The route I did was to purchase a higher wattage bulb (80w) to put into the housing since I wasn't too happy with the Silverstars.
Check out the Appearance section and search under "headlight", "9006" and such. You'll get more and better info in that section than here.
My website has a couple pics of my current headlights vs. Silverstars. Silverstars made the stocks look really yellow...so you can imagine how the stocks would have looked compared to my current lighting. I'm looking into some newer bulbs too which will be 80w as well but will be brighter. I'll have pics up when I do.

So I did a search where you told me to and found that unless I buy a conversion kit for my headlights, that the 9006 bulb option is not possible. The lights on there are sealed, which means to me that the bulbs cannot be replaced without cutting?? Also I see that the conversion kits have nothing but negative reviews by other CZ users.
It just baffles me at how many parts problems I run into by having this car because noone makes anything for them!!! Grrr

I bought Xenon bulbs (not a whole kit) for my headlights, looks good. Doesn't look brighter by very much if at all but the light is very white instead of yellow. I got them at kragen. The ones I bought were made by Sylvania and had a clear lens. Lots of the bulbs that say Xenon have a blue tint on them which is technically illegal, but I doubt anyone would be able to tell if you used this type for your fog lights.

What you do is take your existing headlight and pry the bulb out. Then you can buy any 9006 bulb you please and re-seal it into the original housing. I used JB-Weld on mine which you can find at any auto store.
The 9006 bulb is an option...I know, I have the same headlight system as you and have done it as have lots of others.
on my 94 camaro i changed the bulbs to some superbright ones or whatever, seemed to make a big difference, and if your all of your bulbs foglights/headlights are dim, it may be something else than just all of the bulbs going bad. not sure of the v6 wiring though

Just remember that if the bulb has any color coating on it, you are giving up output.
So a 55w stock vs. 55w tinted bulb...the 55w stock will be brighter because of the filter on the tinted bulb which was the problem I ran into with Silverstars. Color was improved but output was slightly less than stock. Minimum, look for a 80w bulb. You have to be careful not to get those 55w/60w = 80w.
Look for the 80w=100w.

My other half said he found some at the SLP website, but I haven't looked for them myself, since he has a tendancy to order me stuff without telling me, I didn't wanna end up with two sets. I talked to him about doing the 9006 swap, but our biggest fear is that the housing will leak, even with JB weld. I only plan to keep the car for another year before we move, then selling it, so trying not to dump too much money into it as I already have on routine maint. etc.
Thanks so much for all of the help/info.
