Gear Ratio on Stock Camaro, Question!

How do I know what kind of gears/rear end I have on my 99 Convertible Camaro V-6? I want to get some 3.43s and was told if I have the 3.08s I cannot get them unless I buy the differential from SLP to make my car handle the gears. If anyone knows how I find out my rear end and gear ratio, it would be appreciated and if its true I have to purchase another item from SLP along w/ the gears. Thanks...

Look in the driver's side door jamb for a GU(#).

Find it, post it here and someone will tell you.

I don't memerize the gear codes...others do though.

If your car is a Y87, that makes a difference as well. If so, you already have posi and I do believe 3.43's Pretty bad I don't even know what gear ratio I have in my car......I suck!!!

GU4 IS what it says on the sticker in the door jam. So I guess I have 3.08s and that means I can upgrade to the GM Motive 3.42s without having to add anything else from LSD or anyone right?

How do I find out if its y87? I know the birds have the body kits on the y87s but my convert looks just like all the others..for now :-)

Thanks

Actually Hummer911, I had quite a bit of mods done to the car. My CarDomain page hadn't been updated then. I ran a 14.3. Stock GT mustangs don't really give me much of a challenge, but if their modded....they walk me. I don't mind loosing once in a while. As for the light bar, I got it at RkSport for $500 and some change. Installed it myself, that saved money too. It's not hard at all. You'll have to send me some pictures of your car. I'm anxious to see another convertible. Doesn't seem to be many around on the board. Take care.

Ram air hood.....yeah

jsut as a tip if you do upgrade tyo 3.42s, i woudl get Limted Slip differential(LSD), its not that muych more expensive, and actually woudl be cheaper if you did it all at the same time.

it will help you launch better, and in the long run you will, love how it feels coming out of corners and such...

besides tswo wheel burnouts are much beter then 1 wheel burnouts.

definately get 3.42's. my car has em and i did not really notice till i drove my friends 3.08. off the line it sucks. with the 3.42's, most of the time i get good launchs with no tire spin at all or loss of control. i would definatley upgrade.
