Gas Milage

I'm not to skeptical over how much gas this car uses, but one question is ticking in my head... I'm using middle grade octane because I've heard to many complaints over lowest grade octane in these cars, and it caused alot of rattling and ticking in my V6 Mustang...

I'm getting roughly 300 to 320 miles per full tank after a tuneup...60% Highway miles and 40% Street driving... is that good or bad? I don't know how much gas these babies carry so I'm clueless.

Thanks all!

99-02 has a 16.8 gallon tank 98-(93?) have a 15.5 gallon tank. If you have the 15.5 gallon tank that means you are getting around 20-21 miles to the gallon. Factory gas mileage rating is 19/29. How you drive greatly effects the mileage.

Calculate it.

Lets say you did 320 miles when you stop to get gas. You put in 12 gallons.

320 miles / 12 gallons = 26.6 mpg

Replace with your miles and gallons filled...

I usually get 24-27...

that sounds pretty darn good, so how many gallons was it? like 14?, my check gauges light goes on after I've used exactly 14 gallons. My car has 15k miles and I use 87 like the manual says and it runs good, your car shouldn't need 89, unless if you feel because your car has 87,000 miles that it needs it, but my experience is that mid grade makes the mileage worse, I get about 24 mpg, like 30/70 city/highway and the one time I used midgrade (89) I got like 20. 87 will be okay, remember it's not a ford.

I didn't and hopefully never will run it till the check gauges light came on. I heard it's a $300.00 job to get this car started again in the event you do run out of gas. But it was closer to the E than it was the Quarter mark. Should I really drop back down to 87 Octane? will 89 truly drop my gas milage? I also got recently got a tuneup, new airfilter, oilchange, and a new serpentine belt. (yes after all those repairs, I BARELY had enough left to fill er up anyway) maybee it just took awhile for things to kick in?

Did the Ford Mustang really require 89 Octane?

I think you should run 87 like your manual says, My mother put 89 in my car and it got bad mileage, I guess that little bit of difference in fuel will effect the engines effiecncy.

but 380 is really good, that's got to be around 28 mpg, i'm not getting that and my car is new. do you have any mods?

Don't worry about running it to the gauge light, I don't do it everytime but have done it before and it gives you plenty of warning time, like I said, you will have close to 3 gallons when t comes on if you have the 16.8 gallon tank, what year is your car anyway?

It's really hilly and I do alot of back road driving.

Mostly get 275-280 before I need gas

Last fill up was 18MPG! (3 street races)

I'm trying to baby this tank, see if I can rase that up again.

All stock, no mods. I'm going to try 87 Octane now. Afterall it's cheaper and if my car runs like crap, I'll just buy some octane booster.

Also, I always drive in overdrive even when going under 50 MPH is there a difference between OD and D while under 50? could this help or could this cause any problems?
