Flowmasters on a V6?

Is it worth the money to put dual exhaust on a V6? I've heard that it won't improve any performance or sound. I even heard that it may make the sound worse. I keep getting conflicting opinions. Please help!

Depends on how free flowing you get. Also if you do the full cat back, it would help out a lot. The only time it would get worse is if you get a bigger than usual I pipe? I heard it loses back pressure so there is a little bit of power loss.

i say just get the flows. there is nothing you can do to make our cars sound good. you could spend $1000 and your car is still gonna sound like a 6. i dont care what all these "my car sounds like an 8" people say. go with flows and call it a day. or i will sell you my dynomax for $40 and make your day even simpler.

Flowmasters wont cut it, It will make it sound like a v6 with an exhaust, just as most exhausts for a 6 cyl will. You can get the car to sound like a muffled 8 cyl with quite a few exhausts on the market, at an idle. However, once you get on the gas, it instantly becomes clear that there arnt 8 cyls. the closest thing i have heard to sounding 8 cyl is a WS6 take off rear section. And even this becomes raspy and non-8 cyl sounding in the higher rpm ranges.

It all depends on what you want power, or sound and a lot of people end up with neither cause they over kill it , especially on 6 cyl cars with huge exhausts running out the back into non restrictive mufflers.

Ok, so gettin dual won't sound like an 8, but it won't make the sound worse, right? That's basically the only thing I'm worried about.

nothing sounds worse than a stock V6 exhaust. wait, there is no sound in a stock V6 exhaust. people are so picky about exhausts. i spent over $1000 on mine and i never really liked it. its all up to you.

But the duals will look sweet!
I wanna get dual exhaust.....80 series Flowmasters I think. I just don't know what model number muffler i need. I think its #42583. That one has a single 2.5in. inlet and dual 2.5in. outlets. I will fabricate some pipes to the back with some hooker tips. I'm going really cheap so I just need the muffler and I will do the rest.

How do I make flanges to connect the 2 1/4in. I pipe to the 2.5in. muffler? Or can I buy some?

No matter what aftermarket exhaust you get, you will get that v6-ish sound up top. The only way to not get that sound is to keep your stock exhaust on.

IMO, the exhaust that sounded most like a V8 on our cars was a American Thunder system by Flowmaster.

Do a search, you'll find a TON of matchs.

BTW, you aren't getting true "duals"...you will simply have a muffler with two outlets. All for looks...

I know all that...and I don't care if it will ever sound like a V8 cuz its not a V8. I just want it to sound like a nice v6.

oh crap that is another problem. a nice V6 requires some sort of catback - if even homemade with a bigger i pipe and some headers. porting and polishing the heads and intakes and a cam with headers and a catback will give you a nice sounding V6.

And I wasn't responding to you.

Your first post wasn't addressing sound, it was about part #/sizing/flanges.

I was talking to the guy asking about the sound.

Take a look at my pics. That's a 80 series w/ tips. She sounds and looks nice. Of course not a 8 , but a deep sounding 6.

I've got flowmaster on my v6. I have my exhaust straight piped from the headers back w/ no cats, to an 80 series flowmaster w/ 3 in exits. This setup sounds great at an idle, just like a v8 but as soon as you get on it a little you can tell it is a v6. No matter what you do you will always be able to tell there are only 6 cylinders under the hood. I paid bout 160 for muffler, tailpipes, hangers, tips, and installation. I say go ahead and go w/ the flows. They give you a little more performance w/ a whole lotta sound. Flows are usually the loudest on v6 but sound ricey at higher rpms jsut as any v6 will. on the plus side they jsut look sweet coming out the back. Although you could go w/ true duals, they really stand out. Here's a link to one of the members of ACFA that have true duels, the picks are on pg 10. true duels hope it helps your decision, l8tr, AJ
