Talking Flowmaster...INSTALLED!

I got a Flowmaster rear section installed today...I LOVE the sound and SOTP gain over the factory exhaust (8 yrs old w/ 108k on it ). I was going to get a hi-flow cat and 2.5 or 2.75 I-pipe as well, but my mechanic said that both sizes of pipe had fitment issues and woulnt fit without alot of fabrication. I don't understand why, except that he doesn't do alot custom stuff and maybe a strictly exhaust shop would have gotten it to work.

I am very satisfied with the new set-up. (for the moment at least) In the future, I do want to upgrade to a bigger I-pipe and a new cat. Would this be worth my while? What diameter pipe do you guys recommend?

How much did it all cost you, installation included? Did you get new tailpipes or just the muffler? Thanks

If you cna maybe try ot get a cutout.

Sometime soon I may be going with 2.75 in. pipe. 3.4Ls sound pretty mean in my opinion.

As for the CAT, I would replace it when you get the money too. you cna unbolt it off and take it off yourself, I do have my stock gutted CAT laying around in my room somewhere. If ya wanna try it out some time. Just a bithc to ghet through the rust to get your stock one off.

I forgot to mention reason why I gutted it was the inside was falling apart, and the car actually would start to stall out as the rpms really starte to rise.

I would gut the cat without batting an eye if it wouldnt make the car ALOT louder and just improved flow. But the car got 50x louder just from the muffler change. I really don't want it much louder, just a little deeper.

For the muffler, tailpipes, tips, labor, and tax it was 260 bucks.

What kind of flowmaster did you get? I have been thinking about getting a new muffler for my 3.4 and I am probably going with a flowmaster. Also, do you know the part # of the muffler?

I got the 80 series crossflow style. I don't know the part number, but theyre really common. Just check Summit or Jegs or something.

Ok, thanks. One more question: What size did you get inlet/outlets?

3" in, dual 2.5" outlets. The guy had to rig an adapter up to fit it onto my stock i-pipe.

I'll have to admit flows sound better on the 3.4s than the 3.8s.

Any idea how much the muffler alone cost? I am pretty sure I could do the tips and hook it up, but hte muffler, I want to know what a ballpark figure is.

A flowmaster on a 6? I know how they sound on a v8 all day long but have heard few 3.8's or 3.4's with em. Is it worth it? I would'nt mind gettin a flow for my 2000 V6 but dont want it to sound weak. I heard a stock 98-02 Z-28 muffler would do the job better. I dont know though (too bad you cant tell what a muffler will sound like before ya buy it LOL!!). I'm gettin an LS1 later and if I can use the same muffler I plan to put on the six it would'nt be wasted money. what do you guys think?

I put an 80 series on my 96 3.8 and I love the sound! Not real loud but it made my car a little deeper. The higher RMPS you'll loose the deeper sound. When I first installed it I didn't have any tail pipes and it sounded like crap. Check your local speed shops they should have one. I got mine for around 80 bucks. You'll need to get 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 adapter if the rest is gonna stay stock.

I put the 80 series on my 96 3.8 and it sounded 100X better!! In my eyes its a must do! Right now i'm in the process of getting a larger I pipe. I get it installed next week so we'll see how it goes. I think its the same size as the one off a Z28 so I'm not sure what it'll sound like! Guess we'll have to wait and see
