extreme loss of power...thinking tranny

okay been having these problems gradually getting worse for last year or so...havnt been driving since ive been 600 miles away from car but now im home and its driving me nuts...im doing a 383 build and 5 speed swap so im not concerned about fixing but just curious what u guys think the problem is.

engine is at 112 miles but was completly rebuilt top and bottom 4k ago. accessory belt, tensioner and gears have been replaced at same time.. all electrical has been redone since i had alternator went bad and pump 18 volts through lines...brand new die hard and alternator, brand new oil pan, and tranny mount has been replaced twice. exhuast manifold has slight crack in it but not bad, high flow cat, with 3 inch cat back exhuast to a flowmaster with dual 4 inch chrome tips 18" long. i have a K&N FIPK on her as well.. theres been a few other minor changes but that gives u a basic understanding of the conditions.

basically if from a stop i step on gas my rpms will just rev up but the car will not move really at all (and no im not spinning just no power going through to wheels)... if i gently press on gas she will drive fine but soon as i get on her around 3k she starts revving but i lose all power to wheels and car gains no speed at all till she shifts then rpms drop and she picks up again. im thinking the transmission is slipping or just shot. im not worried untill she dies completly in which case i just speed up swap.. im just curious what u think it could be. its just real sad when a 120 horsepower car can romp on u cause ur car basically is in nuetral half the time driving..... guess it keeps me out of trouble till the 383 is done

From what you describe, your clutches in you trans, i assume its a auto cause you said 5 speed swop, are slipping really bad, the same thing happens to a manual car when the clutch disk is about dead.

As for the 5 speed swop with the 383. Your gonna need one hell of a 5 speed to handle the power of that stroker. Like maybe a built up TKO.
