Re: exhaust question

Well, to know for sure, get on your back and look all the way up and down your exhaust pipe and make sure it's not touching or real close to anything...

Re: exhaust question

I would put my money on two things: either you have a defective catalytic converter and you are hearing the catalyst material rattling around in there, or the intermediate pipe of the catback exhaust is rubbing on the rear axle. I had the problem with my old catback banging on the rear axle so I got some header wrap and wrapped up the trouble spot. That made things much quieter.

Re: exhaust question

The 3.4's y-pipe is double walled to allow for noise damping. If you look at it there are dimples all along the ypipe. I would bet that one of these welds has broken loose from the inside and is causing the rattle. Best way of telling this is to put the car up on stands and then hit the ypipe w/ your hand see if it rattles. If it does then just take it up to your local muffler shop and have them tack weld the dimples again and it should stop. That is what happened to a few ppl I know, as well as myself. good luck, l8tr

Sick94, Good info to know. My daily driver 94 with 191K on the clock is doing the same thing and it sounds like stink......I've pretty much replaced the whole exhaust, for now what seems to be no good reason. I was able to finaly trace the rattle back to the y pipe but I had know idea that is was double walled.

Thanks
