Exhaust & Intake

I've got a 96 3.8 camaro and was thinking of either taking off my cat or putting a bigger pipe on. Right now i have everything stock except for a flowmaster with dual outs (from a Z28). How much hp do you think they would each add. Also, does anyone know what either of them sound like?? Someone said not to do cats cause it doesn't sound good but to get the larger pipe. If i was to get the larger pipe, does anyone have any suggestions on what size- 2.5 or 2.75...??

Also I was thinking of making an intake for my car by just extending the peice off the elbow straight down to the bottom, and putting a K&N cone on the bottom. I would also cut the bottom plastic peice out and put a scoop underneath to force more air up into the intake. Does anyone else have any suggestions or plans on how they did theirs????I would put a full intake on but i can't figure out how to get past the really narrow part half way through the stock intake up top there. Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Also does anoyone know how much hp would be roughly added by doing something like this??

Thanx alot,

Camaro the Honda Slayer

well I not sure on the 3.8, but with the 3.4 I did the intake, and I love it... I made a custom tube from some thin stainless steel sheet metal and this extends down to a cone filter above some custom louvres... definate power increase and adds the sweet induction sound

as for exhaust I am still stock except for the flowmaster 80

Ill try and get pictures of my intake system on my website soon (maybe this weekend, its still a work in progress)

I can't give you an exact number of how many horses you should expect to see and I don't think anyone else can either. I think there is too much of an emphasis on how much HP is gained rather than how it improves how the car actually performs.

For example, my first mod was my SLP intake. Honestly, I doubt it added any more than 5 HP. I could really care less since it helped acceleration and gave it more kick.

How much hp do you think they would each add.
Each what? Exhaust tailpipe? If that is what you're talking about...nothing. You still have your stock intake, cat and small I-pipe so any gain is minimal.

Do some homework and use the search button to find one of 1000's of posts about what size I-pipe to get. As for the intake, a couple people make their own but I chose to just buy one. I personally don't like the look of some "home-made" intakes but then again they spent less $$$ that they used elsewhere. It's your choice...

BTW...how many S2000s have you killed with that near-stock Camaro?

Thanx for the suggestions and info!! Scamper, if you could send me some pics of your intake it would help me out alot!! Is there any reason you used thin stainless steal sheet metal or is it just what you had on hand. Whats the diff b/w metal and plastic?? I have decided to go with the larger I-pipe and i'm getting it installed next week. We'll see how it goes!

Talking

Simple. I was asking you, the Honda Slayer, how many Honda S2000s you've beaten in your near-stock Camaro.

Honda S2000 = Honda
You = Honda Slayer

So...how many Honda S2000s have you raced and beaten?

Talking HAHAHA...contradictions.

Haha, Your pretty funny!

I wasn't trying to be funny. You're the one who called yourself "Camaro the Honda Slayer", so I thought it was a valid question. Such a bold statement means you should be able to take down the higher-end Hondas. Now if I asked you...

"Hey 96 camaro 4 life, how many little 1.7L Civics have you crushed today with that Honda Slayer car of yours?" That's trying to be funny...

BTW do you think that's all the mods i've got done to my car just b/c thats what it says in my sig?? Well, guess what, your wrong!!!

Ummm.....read your first post...here, I'll quote you.

See...I only know what you tell me. As far as your sig said and...what you said in the opening post, your car is near-stock.

Thumbs down

Kids.

Keep it clean, PLEASE.

Oh, and do a search, PLEASE. You'll find more material on the "intake and exhaust" subject than you can shake a stick at if you do a search...you might even learn something.

hey Sorry, didn't mean 4 it to carry on like that. I just hate it when people bug me about having a V6, or "all stock" camaro. It bugs me alot.. anyways, i do have more done than my sig says and the reason the first one says what it does is b/c my friend wrote it for me. But whatever didn't mean to start a war.

On the other side of things, I did get my larger I pipe, and it sounds quite a bit more throaty and deep. Also i did notice a bit of a power gain. Overall i'm pleased with it!

Good to hear you like your latest mod. What size pipe did you go with?

You'll like your exhaust a lot better once you get an intake.

BTW...you shouldn't get ragged on in this forum about having a V6...after all, this is the V6 forum. We'll get a lone Z28 person coming in here dissing us V6ers once in a while but we just ignore them.

I got the largest pipe that would come on a Z28 which is 2 3/4 but the guy that i got it done by said 3 and i'm pretty sure that its not 3". Also, I'm still workin on gettin an intake. there's one problem with my design. the scoop and hole that i was gonna put underneath the car might just suck up the water although it would have a long ways to go. It rains here quite a bit so i'm not sure what i'm gonna do. Does any1 have any knowledge about this?? Other than that I just need to get the materials and put it all together.

O yeah ImportKILLER, is your stealth all wheel steering?? I've heard that some turbo's come with aws but have never seen it. Other people told me that there's no such thing for stealth's. Do you know anything about it??
