I have a 3.8 V6, and it has the single outlet exhaust. I bought a muffler and the exit pipes as well as the tips from a Trans Am. The tips attach to the exit pipes via clamps, and the muffler has a clamp on the side that connects to the I-pipe. What I want to know, is do I really have to weld these, they don't look welded on the Trans Am one, so in theory, could I just jack up my car and do the exhaust myself? It doesn't appear that the muffler even has a hanger on it. There is one hanger on one of the exit pipes, but it doesn't look like it was ever welded. So how is it attached?

To make this long question simple, is can I put the new stock Trans Am exhaust on my 3.8 by myself, without having to weld anything?

I tried the same thing and have the set up in my basement.

What is stoping you from installing it is that the 3.8 has a 2 1/4" pipe and the TA has a 2 3/4 or 3" pipe.

I never got mine installed and instead bought a Borla but I am sure there is a way, I think it needs to be welded because of such a difference, I am farely mechanical and have the tools but I wouldnt do it, I would pay someone with a welder.

Well you need an adapter...I had the same problem, it can be done with clamps but you need a custom fabricated adapter from 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 I think.... I formed some sheet steal into a cone and then welded it....I then clamped it....Its not the greatest but its done....

It will sound decent at idle and startup...a little deeper than stock.

Don't expect too much though...just as raspy, if not more, than the stock exhaust.

That's what I've heard about a lot of our (aftermarket) exhausts. Its seems the ones that sound good down low (like FM, borla, etc) don't sound asgood up top. ANd the ones that sound good up top don't down low.
I'd thought about B&B for a long time, but it seems to quiet for my tastes now.
Borla might-supposedly-sound good, with CAI, up top (I've never heard one, just from reading here).


Someone has a clip of a Z28 muffler on V6, and while revving it actually sounded good...better than my Flowmaster. But it was quiet.
