Question Exhaust Cut Out Size?

I noticed that Flow tec offers a 2.5 and 3 inch cut out adapter for firebirds. Which one should i get for a factory exhaust setup with a dynomax muffler? This is welded on right before the muffler right? Give me some other ideas on brands and sites thunder racing has this one for 34.99

V6's sound like garbage with cut outs bro...I heard a kid with a 95 3.4 Firebird which had its cut outs taken out and the thing sounded worse than half the ricers running around. What ya do is up to you man...But just know...It can be a really bad deal in the end...

thanks for the advice i assumed it would give me a deeper louder sound. Do you think mine being a 3.8 would sound a little different. I talked to a kid runnung straight pipe on a 3.8 v6, he said it sounds similar to a v8?? Tell me what ya think, my aftermarket exhaust by dynomax definetly sounds better than stock. I heard a rumor by a lot of people that said Flow Master's on v6's sound like garbage, that is why i am running dynomax. I dont want to get nothing started about me talking bad about Flow's i know they are good mufflers. Please leave your opinions people.

I took the 3.8 into consideration and I think that its a good idea to go with something other than flowmaster. A lot of people I know that ruun V6ers on Flowmaster hate the sound. I mean you can give the cut out a try and see how you like it, if you don't like it, there is no one saying you can't go back to stock...Good luck man, I am sure she will sound alright...

A cut-out before the catalytic converter will be too loud to run all the time. You are running open headers at that point.

Some of you have too high an expectation, you are talking about a 3.8L not a 5.7L, they aren't going to sound the same so don't expect it to.
A V6 doesn't sound like a V8 down low, and a 4 cyl up high...it sounds like a V6.
There is no exhaust note to open headers, its just obnoxiously loud. Its all in opinion. I would disagree with some comments. A) Most people I talk to, myself included are running a flowmaster, and I have yet to hear a better muffler for the V6.
B) Being used to real race cars, circle track cars, etc. I hear open headers all the time, and to me, nothing in the world sounds better than open headers.

I plan on installing a cut-out on my V6, but I am going 3".

I have a 2.5" cutout on my 3.8 after the cat. With it open at low RPM it sounds sorta throaty. Nothing like it would on a V-8, but decent. It sets off it's share of car alarms as I drive by. At higher RPM's though including heavy acceleration, it sounds like sh*t. Basically an elephant farting through a straw. I like the way it sounds driving through town and in 5th gear on the freeway. Other than that, I keep it closed. YOu can check out pictures of my cutout on my cardomain site if you want to. It's on the last page. If you want a second opinion ask YOUNGDEEZY, he heard my cutout firsthand.

Re: Exhaust Cut Out Size?

I am also thinking of putting a cut-out on my 2001 Camaro 3.8L. But what size cut-out should I get? I have a magna muffler which uses the stock pipes.

Also I was thinking of getting an electric motor that will open and close my cut-out. But what size should I get? These are the sizes below

2-1/4", 2-3/8", or 2-1/2"

http://www.mccordcg.com is selling it for $110 plus shipping so that is where I will be buying it.

A respond back would greatly be appreciated, thanks everyone!

Re: Exhaust Cut Out Size?

I have a cutout on my '98 3800 II, and at idle and at low RPM's it sounds really good, in my opinion. Anything above 3000 RPMs sounds like crap. I'm not sure what the size on it is, though

Re: Exhaust Cut Out Size?

Thanks jdub, do you always leave your cut-out open? I am thinking of puting an electric cut-out so I can open and close it. Its annoying when I hear really lound cars at night when everyone is sleeping so I would probably close it at night.

My friend has a Type-R and he has a sports exhasut that's really loud (but sounds real good for an imprort) and he has to put something on it at night so its quiet cause he got pulled over for that around my area.

Thanks for the info, I definatley will let you know on this post when I've installed it.
