Engine light
Engine light
My engine light came on few days a go, so i scanned it with an ODB II Code Reader and the P0405 code came up. In the ODB II manual it's say's that P0405 is "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low". Can someone tell me what does that mean and what do i need to replace to fix that problem?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Engine light
sounds like EGR is unplugged or maybe the EGR is having a problem.
On a 3.8L, its the big cylinder looking metal that connects from the manifold to the intake. Its bolted on on the front of the block, right next to the drivers side valve cover. Its right next to the power steering fluid.
Make sure that 5 wire piece is plugged in.

Re: Engine light
P0405 is a EGR pintle position low voltage code. The EGR valve has a position sensor built into it to tell the computer what the actual position of the valve plunger is. It's reading low.
Most are fault of the sensor itself which means EGR valve replacement. there is not a lot that I can tell you other then that. Diagnosis would require very specific tests which I cant really tell you how to perform. if you unplug the EGR valve connector and turn the key on, check for good ground on the black wire, and a 5 Volt reference on the grey wire. If that checks out, 75% probability the valve is bad.
